Key points 1.Vocabulary:a professional basketball player, an actor, an engineer, a pilot, a computer programmer, grow up2.Target language:What are you going to be when you grow up?Im going to be a professional basketball player.How are you going to do that?Im going to practice playing basketball every day.IV. Teaching methods1.Teach new vocabulary by using flashcards and playing games.2.Create the real English surrounding for the Ss to learn the target language.3.Train the speaking ability by talking and acting.V. Teaching aidsA tape-recorder, some flashcards.VI. Teaching stepsStep 1 Warming up1.Greetings:T: Today well learn Unit 10 What are you going to be when you grow up? Section A (1a-1c)2.Revision:T: Now lets talk about some jobs. Im a teacher. You are students. Then show some flashcards of different jobs for the Ss to review the words of jobs like worker, nurse, doctor, driver, shop assistant, waiter, reporter, bank clerk, farmer, policeman. Let the Ss say out these jobs.Step 2 Leading inShow some flashcards of famous people. First show a picture of Yao Ming and ask some questions: T: Do you know this young man? Whats his name? What does he do? Ss: He is Yao Ming. He is a basketball player.T: Yes, he is a basketball player. And he is a professional basketball player. Write on the Bb: a professional basketball playerThen do the same with other famous people like Bill Gates and teach: a computer programmer, an actor,a pilot, an engineer.Last, make sure that the Ss can read the new vocabulary correctly.Step 3 ActivityShow a flashcard of these jobs: an actor, an engineer, a computer programmer, a pilot, a teacher, a baseball player.Get the Ss to talk about which job is the most interesting and which job is the least interesting (Different opinions are all right).Step 4 Presentation1.T:Different people like different jobs and different people have different opinions of jobs. Now I want to know your opinions. Ask some Ss questions like these:T: Do you like playing computer games?S1:Yes, I do. T: Do you want to be a computer programmer?S1:Yes, I do.T: Why do you want to be a computer programmer?S1:Because computer is very interesting.T: What are you going to be when you grow up?Help S1 to say: Im going to be a computer programmer.(writing these sentences on the Bb and give some explanations to “be going to.”)T: How are you going to do that? Help S1 to say: Im going to study computer science.2.T:You all have dream jobs. Do you know how you are going to do that? I think you should study hard and practice it every day. Do you think so?Ask some students: What are you going to be when you grow up? How are you going to do that?Step 5 ListeningT: Now lets listen to some conversations about some students dream jobs and how they are going to do those.The teacher plays the recorder only once. Listen carefully and match the items.Play the tape for the Ss to match the items and then check the answers.Step 6 Practice1.Ss work in pairs, ask and answer the questions:What are you going to be when you grow up?How are you going to do that? Then ask some pairs to act their conversations out.2.T:Im a teacher and I love my job because I love you. But I also have a dream job in my heart. I like writing. Do you know what my dream job is? Yes, Im going to be a writer when I am old. 3.Let some Ss say out what their jobs are and how to do those.Step 7 Little report1.Give each student a chart and ask them to interview his / her good friends, then finish filling
