Knowledge1. To recite words and phrases: save, flag, forget, place, water, tree, kill, over, get lost, be in great danger, cut down, be made of, etc.2. To use simple present tense to retell this article according to the mind map. Skill1. To improve reading ability and skill such as skimming and scanning by pair-work and group-work.2. To figure out the structure of this article by filling in the mind map. 3. To practice their oral expression ability by retelling the article. EmotionTo cultivate environmental awareness and the consciousness of saving the endangered animals.2. However, some other animals are in great danger, too. If we dont help and protect them, they will disappear in the world someday. Now, among the six animals in 2a, which animals that you think are in great danger? T: Well, today we are going to focus on elephants.Watch the video and think about the endangered animals. Finish 2a.To activate learning atmosphere and cultivate students environmental awareness and consciousness of saving the endangered animals.Pre-reading(2 mins)Guessing time:Show pictures of Thailand and elephants.Present some key words and phrases beside the pictures.T: Now, lets look at some pictures and think about which country it is.Yes, it is Thailand! So, todays topic is about elephants in Thailand.T: Then, lets see what can they do. They can . Are they smart? Well, there is a website article about them. Some students from Thailand write it. Lets see what they say.Look at the pictures of Thailand and guess which country it is. Look at the pictures of elephants and speak loudly of what elephants can do.To raise students interest and present some expressions.While-reading( 15 mins)Activity 1 First time readingAsk students to read the article for the first time and then choose the best title for it.T: What is the main idea of this website article? Can you give it the best title? Please read this article quickly and check the best title in the box.Check the best title from the following options:_What Is an Elephant?_Come to Thailand_Lets Save the Elephants_Elephants Are Good PetsTo practice students ability of thinking about the main idea. Activity 2 SkimmingAsk students to read the article and divide the passage into different parts.T: How many parts does this passage have? Two, three or four? First, read by yourself. Then try to divide the passage into different parts. You can discuss with your partners.Read, discuss and divide the passage into 4 parts:PartLocation1From “Hello” to “good luck”2From “elephants” to “live”3From “But” to “before”4From “We” to “Day”To get a general impression of this article and its structure.Activity 3 ScanningAsk students to read the passage quickly and find out the topic sentence of each part.T: Now we know there are 4 parts of this passage. Are elephants in Thailand in great danger?7. Why are elephants losing their homes?8. Why do people kill elephants?9. How many elephants are there today?10. What do we have to do to save elephants?Read each part carefully and find the answers to the questions.To develop students ability to locate specific information and get the details of each part.Post-reading( 15 mins)Activity 1 Mind mapAsk students to fill in the mind map.T: Lets draw a mind map for this article. Then please finish the mind map in 2c.Complete the mind map in 2c.To consolidate students reading comprehension and strengthen their memory of the article.Activity 2 RetellingAsk students to close the book and retell the article with the help of mind map.T: Close your books please. Look at the mind map on PPT. Then try to retell the article.Finish the task without looking at the text.To evaluate students ability of using the mind map to retell an article.Activity 3 Speed reading gameLet students to read the article as soon as possible. Ask them to have a competition in their groups first. Then invite 3 students of each group to join the final. Read the article as soon as possible and select the fastest one.To stimulate students interest of reading.Summary(2 mins)T: Today, we read an article about the elephants in Thailand.
