Period 1 (Section A 1a-2c)淮南十五中 庞露The teaching content is Could you please tell me where the restrooms are of unit 3 of Go for it, Students Book 5.Analysis of the teaching materialThe topic of this unit is Getting around. In the first period, Ss learn to ask for information. The content of this part is closely related to students daily life and they have learned about asking for information and giving directions before. So it is easier to encourage them to communicate with others.). Analysis of our studentsOur students are in Grade 9. Some of them have some basic English background knowledge. They are active and interested in new things. However, others have problems learning new things. So the teacher should connect what they learn with their life, providing them the chances of using language. Teaching methodsTask-based teaching method and Communicative language teaching method.Teaching aims:Knowledge aims:1) By the end of this lesson, 90% of the students can master the words they have learned: library, post office, bookstore, bank, restaurant.2) 85%-90%of the students will be able to read, recognize and use these words: restroom, stamp, bookstore, beside, postcard; 3) 80%of them can recognize and use the imperatives and preposition of locality:Go/walk along this road/street; turn left/right; go pastBetweenand; across from; on; beside; in front of4) About 70% of them can master the sentence patterns: A: Excuse me, do you know where I canbuy some medicine?B: Sure. There is a supermarket down the street.A: Could you please tell me how to get to the post office?B: Sorry, Im not sure how to get there.Ability aims:By the end of this lesson, 1) About 60%of the students can make up similar and new dialogues. Understand the topic better and mainly improve the listening and speaking skills. 2) Ss can develop their ability of working in pairs.Emotional aim:Ask for information politely.Culture:Know the differences between the two cultures.The difficult points: 1) the sentence patterns(the objective clauses) 2). Make up a dialogue about asking for information politely.Teaching aids: PPT, a computer, some word cards. Teaching procedures:Step1. GreetingStep2. PresentationShow some slides of new words. (Ss get to know and read the new words.)Step3. Warm-up1.A guessing game One student explains the place in English and others compete to guess what place it is.(One student tells others what they can do at this place, and others guess the name of the place. Ss can have a better understanding of what they can do at these places. Then they can do 1a better, and they can be active and more interested in the topic.) 2. 1aMatch phrases with a place in the picture. Many different answers are possible. T: What places can you see in the picture? (Ask Ss to pay attention to the names of the streets. They can say the names from the east to the west and from the north to the south.)Match them, and then check the answers like this-I can get some money in the bank.Step4. Presentation1. A videoT: lets watch a video. Please pay attention to the way of asking the ways. T: OK. What did she say when she was asking the way? S: Can you tell me how to get to xx Street?Take “buy some stamps” and “get some magazines” for examples. Ss try to make sentences: ” Could you tell me where I can buy some stamps?” and “Do you know where I can get some magazines?” 2. T: When we tell others about the ways, we often use the directions. Lets review.Show the slides of directions and preposition of locality.(Present the new structure and help Ss think of what theyve learned so that they can do better in the listening and speaking part.)Step5. Listening Listen and complete the conversations in the picture in 1a.Listen and do the task. If necessary, listen twice. Check the answers by asking Ss read the conversations in pairs.Step6. SpeakingAsk two Ss to read the sample conversation in 1c.Then make conversations using the information in 1a. Ss work with his/her partner to make new conversations. A few pairs show their conversations. Step 7.ListeningSs will hear some of the directions in 2a. Number them in the order they hear them. Then draw a line in the picture to show how the boy walks to the supermarket.Before listening, focus their attention on the picture.Listen, and answer the question.T: 1.What does the boy want to buy?2.Where can he buy it? Then listen again to finish 2a and 2b. Check the answers. (Listen only once for Ss to do the two exercises. This is not a difficult part and it can help check their listening ability. )Step8.SpeakingMake conversations about the other places in the picture in 2a.(Show the picture of 2a on the screen.)Ask two Ss to read the sample conversation. Then Ss work in pairs to make similar conversations.A few pairs show their conversations.Step9. SummaryT: Lets summarize what we have learned in this class. How can we ask about the way to a place? Lets take “a bank” for an example.Ss: Excuse me, do you know the way to the bank?Could you please tell me how to get to the bank?Excuse me, where is the bank?T: Good. How do you answer the questions?Ss: Sure. There is a bank down the street. Just go along/straight.until. Turn left/right. Go past Its on your left/right.T: very good. Remember to be nice and friendly.(Lead Ss to pay attention to the objective clause, and be polite and friendly while asking for help or helping others.)Step10. Homework1.
