Pre-reading tasks Discuss the following question. What makes a man a good father in your opinion? How to Tell If Hell Be a Good DadAlthough anyone can be a father, it takes a special person to be a good dad. When considering having children, its natural to assess the possible parenting skills of your mate. Learn to tell if your man will be a good dad.1 Watch how he treats his mother. His relationship with his mom can foreshadow the type of family man hell be. Positive signs that he respects her include frequent, enjoyable visits, laughter in her presence and helping out with chores.2 Ask yourself if hes selfless. The first thing you learn as a parent is that you dont come first anymore. Beware of a guy who only thinks about himself. Great potential fathers always think about the needs and feelings of others, and they dont hesitate to lend a helping hand.3 Know that he can handle some unpleasant things. Babies have dirty diapers to change, and kids can be messy. Being a good dad means dealing with some yucky situations. He must jump in to clean up messes and help out when someone isnt feeling well.4 Observe him as an uncle. The way he behaves with his nephews and nieces can show a lot about how he relates to little ones. See if hes affectionate, caring and pays attention to them.5 Make sure he doesnt mind taking direction from you. A dad often needs to take hints and instruction from his childrens mother, so if hes the type who resents you when you tell him what to do, it wont be easy working with him to raise children. See if hell be a good dad by taking note of how he responds to suggestions and how he reacts to your plans in everyday life.6 See that hes a fairly playful person. Check if he makes everyday, monotonous activities fun and he has a silly side. Kids easily get bored, so making things fun for them-each and every day-is a huge plus, and a good dad can do that.2. Reading suggestions:1) Read through the text and then close your books.
