Book 2 module 1Several years ago, I rarely took exercise and ate too much junk food which contained fat. As a result, I became overweight, which gave too much burden to my lung and made me difficult to breathe. Besides, I was not fit and often had a temperature. More funnily, when I lay down, it was difficult for me to get up. I didnt live a normal life. When I walked in the street, someone would stop to eye me. My mother was anxious about me, so she took me to the hospital to have me examined. The doctor said my obesity was connected with unhealthy food. He advised that I should have a balanced diet and take more exercise. I put myself into the fight against obesity. I changed my lifestyle and began with eating vegetables and fruits. Whats more, I took an active part in sports. The captain of the school football team is my closest friend. He allowed me to exercise with his team. When someone was injured in the training, I would take the place of him. Gradually, things headed towards the better. I lost 30 jin in one month, which gave me much confidence. I seldom become ill now and am crazy about football.Module 2Taking drugs, such as cannabis and cocaine, is more dangerous than taking cigarette, because it is regarded as a crime. In most countries, taking drugs is severely banned. It affects not only ones health but also our society. Once someone is addicted to taking drugs, or become a drug addict, he is most likely to do something illegal, such as shoplifting, burglary or breaking into others houses to steal something belonging to others. I have a cousin, Bob, who used to be a healthy person. Because his father disagreed with him about his future career, in order to let out his anger, he went to the net bar with his best friend, who was in connection with a drug group. He offered Bob some crack cocaine. Gradually, Bob became addictive and didnt give it up. Whats more, he took his friends advice, to steal something so as to buy drugs. He became a danger to others.I didnt recognize him when I met him in the street, because he was yellow and thin. Later, his father forced him to receive treatment. In the center for drug addict, he reduced the chance of contacting his friends. I hope he will give it up and live a healthy life again.Module 3Peter, one of the greatest musicians and composers in the world, was really a great genius in music. When he was young he even dreamed of becoming a conductor and forming his own band. At the early age, Peter showed musical talent. His father, a peasant, managed to send him to learn music from a lecture. He made a note of or even recorded what his teacher taught in classes. His teacher was deeply impressed with his hard work and tried his best to direct him. Peter especially loved classical and jazz. Later, he also composed many catchy ballads and toured in Europe. His style greatly influenced the next generation. As he grew old, he lost his hearing, but he didnt split up with his music. He even mixed western music with oriental（东方的） music and built a bridge between the two hemispheres(半球).Module 4My parents are fond of going to art galleries to watch the exhibitions. They often take me with them, which is aimed at developing my like for painting. I once studied drawing landscape and watercolor, but soon I was tired of them and finally gave them up. However, I still enjoy watching famous artists works. I can tell whose works they are by the style.My favourite artists are Pablo Picasso and Qi Baishi. They two had different styles. Pablo Picasso was considered to be the greatest western artist of the twentieth century. He as well as George Braque started an important new artistic movement-Cubism. Cubist artists painted objects and people from different aspects. Pablo Picasso won unusual success. He created a series of works in different periods. It looks as if the objects and people were destroyed, but in fact they are quite a whole.Qi Baishi adopted the traditional Chinese style of painting. At first, he only imitated others works. As a result, his works were not popular with the public. He couldnt stand the failure and even intended to give up painting. Later, he observed the world of nature carefully and realised the true meaning of art. The animals in his works look so alive that the works attract lots of collectors. Mr Qi believed that artists should show reality. Occasionally, Qi Baishi drew the portraits.Module 5The news that Chinas taikonaut successfully walked in Feitian space hit the headlines at home and abroad. The photographs of Zhai Zhigang in spacesuit replaced other pictures in the newspapers. He became a celebrity overnight. All the Chinese were very delighted at the good news and proud of our country. Foreign media also made different reviews about it. Mr Zhai walked in space for 20 minutes in total, marking a historic breakthrough in our countrys ambitious space program. It was also a great achievement to our country.When Mr Zhai struggles out of capsule of the spaceship with a national flag, all the people watching him burst into applause. But now it has been successful.” a boy said, “Now that we have walked in space, I think a permanent space station will be founded soon.” Mr Zhai is similar to Mr Yang Liwei, both of whom are hard-working, determined and have strong belief. An amateur writer produced an essay. He wrote, “Mankind is so small in universe, but we are also brave. The astronauts courage to explore the unknown universe is an inspiration to the whole nation.”Module 6Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon, directed by Taiwan famous director, Ang Lee, came out in May, 2000. It is a wuxia film and a thriller. The famous star Chou Yun-Fat plays the leading male part, and actress Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi play the leading female parts in this film. Much to many peoples surprise, the wuxia film should have wom four prizes in the 73rd Oscar. It was really a masterpiece.The main characters in this film are Li Mubai, Yu Xiulian and Yu Jiaolong. Its setting is in China in the early 1800s. The plot is entertaining and complex. the characters movements are very beautiful and gracefu
