When a couple choose a beach with children, Playa la Audiencia is their best choiceBAt home and at work, invisible radio waves from dozens of wireless networks are running through your space and body. Its reasonable to worry about what effect all that wireless energy might have on your health. But while the wireless equipment is becoming popular recently, the kind of radiation they produce has been carefully examined for decades, says John Moulder, a professor from the Medical College of Wisconsin. In 2013, Moulder wrote a report about the existing health research on Wi-Fi. Like your mobile phone, Wi-Fi routers(路由器)send and receive information using radio waves, he says. The research on radio waves and human health goes back at least to the 1950s, when there were concerns about Navy servicemen being exposed(暴露)to powerful shipboard radar(雷达). “We have 50 or 60 years of research into the kind of radiation connected with Wi-Fi,” Moulder says.Foster was Moulders partner on that 2013 report of Wi-Fis health effects. He says that, based on our understanding of radio wave strengths and risks, world health organizations have set safety standards for all the equipment that gives off radio wavesfrom phones to microwaves. But some experts have more concerns about the types of weak radiation our wireless equipment produces. “We have animal studies suggesting even low-level exposures to the kind of radio wave radiation connected with Wi-Fi could have various negative health effects,” says Joel Moskowitz, a professor from the University of California.Earlier this year, an animal study found heavy exposures to cell phone radiation辐射 increased rats risks for some brain and heart problems. But many of these animal studies are “all over the place” in their design quality, Foster says. Animal research often does not translate to humans. Also, many of the experiments are quite worrying, for the levels of radiation that the tested animals received are far greater than what people suffer when using mobile phones or wireless networks.Moskowitz doesnt disagree with Moulder. But he says the amount of radio wave radiation people receive today is different, and this raises new concerns. When it comes to our long-term, increasing exposures to all our wireless equipment, “were flying blind,” he says.Of course, trying to avoid radio wave exposure is more or less impossible if you live in modern society. Moskowitz advises keeping wireless equipment away from your body and turning off wireless networks when theyre not in use. While any health risks are yet to be proved, “I think trying to minimize exposure is the best advice at this point,” Moskowitz adds.58. What can be inferred from what John Moulder and Kenneth Foster say?A. The study of Wi-Fi dates back to the 1950s.B. There is no need to worry about the use of Wi-Fi.C. People take risks when using phones and microwaves.D. Navy servicemen near radar were in great danger.59. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 6 suggest?A. Many studies on animals can be seen here and there.B. The design quality of animal research is far from scientific.C. The conditions set for animal studies are similar to those of humans.D. Human beings suffer from stronger radiation than the tested animals.60. Whats Moskowitzs attitude towards the use of wireless equipment?A. Cautious.B. Uncaring.C. Positive.D. Curious.CWhy not write in a foreign language? If people feel free to choose their profession, their religion, and even their sex, why not just decide which language you want to write? Ever since Jhumpa published In Other Words in Italian, people have been asking me, “Why dont you write in Italian, Tim? After all, youve been in the country 35 years. What keeps you tied to English?” Is it just a question of economic convenience?Certainly economics can be important. It was the factor that pushed Conrad to abandon his Polish mother tongue. If it is not possible to publish at home, or to publish there as one would wish to publish, then one is likely to go elsewhere. And if to publish elsewhere one has to change language, then some authors are willing to take that step.Something of the same logic has driven many writers from Africa, Asia to write in French and English in recent years. There is also the fact that people in Europe and the West are interested in the countries they grew up in. Just as in the nineteenth century, novelists like Thomas Hardy could “sell” their familiarity with peasant life to a middle-class metropolitan public, so these writers have interested us with stories that might seem common in their home countries. There is also a real internationalism in the decision to change language. If you have “a message” and if English is the language that offers maximum spread, then it would seem appropriate to use it.All these make sense. Critics tend to pay attention only to those who have made a success of writing in a new language. In April 2014, a New York Times article essentially listed young literary stars who had switched to writing in the main Western languages. At this point, the native English speaker almost begins to feel at a disadvantage for having been born into the dominant culture. Should we perhaps head for Paris, like Beckett or Jonathan Littell, just to be between two worlds? Or look for something more exotic(异国的) and have ourselves translated back into English afterward? However, one fact is that changing languages doesnt always work.I did write a novel in Italian. But after rereading it, I decided against it. My work lost power with the switch of language. My real subject matter still had to do with England and it was to my home culture that my books were addressed. The second language never seems to mean quite as much as the first. In any event, after my early experiment, I never went back to write in Italian. Changing language is not the only way to bring energy to your writing.61.The aut
