Reading 1 Reading 1 课时作业课时作业 阅读理解 A The clothes you wear The food you eat The color of your bedroom walls Where you go and how you get there The people you hang around with What time you go to bed What do these things have in common You re asking They re just a few examples of many hundreds of things that your parents controlled for you when you were a child As a kid you didn t have a say in everything your parents made decisions about everything from the cereal you ate in the morning to the pajamas you wore at night And it s a good thing too kids need this kind of protection on their own But finally kids grow up and become teens And part of being a teen is developing your own identity one that is separate from your parents But as you change and grow into this new person who makes your own decisions your parents have a difficult time adjusting 调整 In many families it is this adjustment that can cause a lot of fighting between teens and parents And issues like the type of friends you have or your attitudes to partying can cause bigger arguments because your parents still always want to protect you and keep you safe no matter how old you are The good news about fighting with your parents get more comfortable with the idea that their teens have a right to certain opinions It can take several years for parents and teens to adjust to their new roles though In the meantime focus on communicating with your parents Sometimes this can feel impossible like they just don t see your point of view and never will But talking and expressing your opinions can help you gain more respect from your parents Keep in mind too that your parents were teens once and that in most cases they can relate to what you re going through 1 In the first two paragraphs the writer A complains that parents control kids too much B proves that kids have no right to give their opinions C describes how carefully parents look after kids D explains that it is necessary for parents to control kids 2 A lot of fighting breaks out between teens and parents because A parents aren t used to losing control of kids B teens like to have everything decided C parents blame teens for not respecting them D teens are eager to develop their own identity 3 In the writer s opinion parents control teens in order to A prevent them from having their own ideas B protect them from being hurt C make them respect parents in the family D make sure that children have a good future 4 What might be the most suitable title of the passage A What do Parents Control Their Children for B How Parents Take Care of Children C How to Get Rid of Your Parents Control D Why do I Fight with Parents so Much B Do parents owe 欠 their children anything Yes they owe them a great deal One of their chief duties 责任 is to give their children a sense of personal worth for self respect is the basis of good mental health A youngster who is often made to feel stupid and unworthy or often compared to brighter brothers sisters or cousins will become so unsure so afraid of failing that he won t try at all Of course they should be corrected when they do wrong this is the way children learn But the criticisms 批评 should be balanced with praises preferably with a smile and a kiss No child is ever too old to be hugged Parents owe their children privacy 隐私 and respect for their personal belongings This means not borrowing their things without permission not reading their diaries or mail not looking through their purses pockets or drawers If a mother feels that she must read her daughter s diary to know what is going on the communication between them must be pretty bad Parents owe their children a set of solid values around which to build their lives This means teaching them to respect the rights and opinions of others it means being respectful to elders to teachers and to the law The best way to teach such values is by example A child who is lied to will lie A child who sees his parents steal tools from the factory or towels from a hotel will think that it is all right to steal A youngster who sees no laughter and no love in the home will have a difficult time laughing and loving No child asks to be born If you bring a life into the world you owe the child something And if you give him his due 有权获得的东西 he ll have something of value to pass along to your grandchildren 5 The underlined sentence No child is ever too old to be hugged means A older children don t like to be hugged B no child likes to be hugged as often as possible C whatever their age is children need to be hugged D older children need more hugs than younger ones 6 Which of the following is against the author s opinion A Teaching your child not to lie to others B Giving your child a sense of personal worth C Reading your child s diary before communicating with him or her D Borrowing things from your child when permitted 7 According to the passage which is the best way to let children know the values of life A Parents should set a good example for their children to follow B Parents should encourage their children to learn from their friends C Parents should criticize their children when they do something wrong D Parents should teach their children to respect others rights and opinions 8 What would be the best title for the passage A Parents and Their Children B Why Parents Want to Have a Child C What Parents Owe to Their Children D No Child Asks to Be Born C It was six o clock in the evening No one was left in the museum John Menendez was making the rounds checking to see that everything was all right Suddenly John saw something on the floor He walked over to see what it was What do you think he saw He saw a beautiful painting lying there John picked it up and gave it to the director of the museum The director called several museums to check and see if it was a stolen painting but no one claimed 认领 it So the director decided to hang it in the museum All the experts came to look at the painting Each one said it was beautiful and had very deep meaning The director was proud to have such a painting in his museum and congratulated John on his discovery Some weeks later a woman and her little son came to the museum While they were looking at the new painting the little boy began to cry The director went over and asked him Why are you crying The child pointed to the painting and said That s my painting on the wall and I want it back Yes said his mother He left it on the floor a few weeks ago If you look carefully you can see his name on the paintin
