Pay attention to the emotion, not the problem. If they are sad, show that you care about how bad it feels. If they are angry, help them to talk it out (without either agreeing or disagreeing). Remember why they came to you If they had wanted a teacher, or a parent, they could have gone to one. _18_ A map of the troubles Think about each of your friendships, and ask yourself this question: “Do we usually just have fun, without talking about some problems?” _19_ Instead, they are asking you to be an advisor of some sort. Either back out of this friendship or insist that it change into something that both of you can enjoy. When you help doesnt help When your love and caring isnt enough, dont be afraid to say so. Remember that you cant really help unless you want to, and you cant possibly want to if you are being overused or if you are running out of time or energy. _20_ If they ask you where they can turn now, tell them all you know about resources(资源). Dont say “Maybe you need a good cry” unless you are willing to sit through the tears!Step 3 Exercise 2 We are told that we should drink at least two liters of water a day, and more if we are exercising. _1_ The result is hyponatraemia (低钠血症). When we sweat, we lost salts which the body needs to maintain its balance. Excessive (过度的) sweating combined with drinking decreases the concentration of salts in the body to a dangerous level. _2_ He found this when he treated a woman running a marathon. However, anyone can suffer from hyponatraemia. There are four main factors that could leas someone to get hyponatraemia. Those most at risk are the very young and the very cold, because they are less able to regulate their water and salt levels by themselves. _3_ This includes marathon and triathlon competitors. However, it is not the skilled athletes who are in danger, but those who run marathons as an occasional hobby. Thirdly, heat and humidity (潮湿) increase the possibility. The kind of heat at which hyponatraemia can set in is not particularly hot 20. The highest number of incidents recorded at one time was when 24 runners were hospitalized during a marathon in California when the temperature was only 23. _4_ Lastly, people in nightclubs are also at risk. The atmosphere there is hot and humid, and they tend to stay there for a long time. A young woman was recently admitted to hospital after drinking ten liters of water while exercising in a gym. She spent four days in hospital recovering. _5_ However, it is best to take sports drinks when exercising.A. Sufferers may even die. B. Of course, we should all drink water. C.
