Knowledge Objects: 1) Vocabulary: outgoing better loudly quietly hard-working competition fantastic which clearly win though2) Target language: Im more outgoing than my sister. Both Sam and Tom Both Sam and Tom can play the drums, but Sam plays them better than Tara. I think she sang more clearly than Nelly.2. Ability Object: Train the students ability of listening and speaking about persons appearance. Train the students ability of expressing peoples traits using the comparative forms of adjective3. Morals: Understand and respect other persons traits and appearance. . Analysis of the students The students of Grade 8 have got something about the description of peoples appearance, and they have mastered some adjectives, which has laid a good foundation for this lesson. They have a good memory and they are good at imitating in English learning. They need to be trained in the ability of English using and knowledge expansion. They desire to express themselves. But some of them are lack of enough self-confidence and they are afraid of presentation. They also have other worries And their listening and speaking ability is not as good as expected, which will be improved in this period through enough exercise. The students in my class are of different levels so I should adapt the lesson to each of them. Therefore in this class , I design some activities such as individual, pair or group work to let each of them have more chances to practice English and involve actively in the class activities. Im sure they will have some improvement. Teaching Important and Difficult Points1. The comparatives of adjectives.2. Talk about personal traits and compare people. Teaching ProceduresStep 1. Revision and lead-in T: “In the last unit, we learned talking about how often you do things. Now I will ask you a question: What do you usually do on weekends? Teng Zhiyuan , Come here, please.” The student come to the blackboard. T: What do you usually do on weekends?S; I usually read books.T: Do you take exercise?S: Yes.T: How often do you take exercise?S: Once a weekT: I think you must take more exercise because you are heavy. Write the word “heavy” on the blackboard. Then the teacher asks the other student who is heavier to come to the blackboard and say “Teng Zhiyuan is heavy, but Wu Jiaju is heavier than Teng Zhiyuan. Then the teacher asks another two students to come to the blackboard and compare their height. Write “tall” and “taller” on the blackboard. Step 2 PresentationPresent a few pictures on the screen and teach the adjectives “thin” “heavy” and “outgoing”Step 3 1a Match each word with its opposite. Get a student to give the answers. Teach the new words: loudly quietly.Step 4 Compare peopleShow a few pictures and learn comparative forms of adjectives. Make sentences with “tall” “taller”, “short” “shorter”, “funny” “funnier”.“Mr. Black is taller than Miss Black” “Pan Changjiang is funnier than Li Yong” “Liu Xiang is stronger than Pan Changjiang”Step 5 Video watching Get the students to watch the video The cat and the mouse and then answer the question “Can the cat eat the mouse?”Step 6 1b Listen and number the pairs of twins in the picture. First get the students to know about the three pairs of twins. They are Tara and Tina, Tom and Sam, Peter and Paul. Listen and write the numbers 13.Step 7 1c Work in pairs. Practice the conversation in the picture above. Then make conversations about the other twins. Ill give the students 3 minutes to practice the conversations in pairs. Then Ill ask 2 pairs to show their conversations before class.Step 8 2a and 2b Listen. Are the words in the box used with (i)er or more? Complete the chart in 2a. Then listen again. How are Tina and Tara different? Fill in the boxes in 2b.Step 9 A guessing game Guess who he/she is?Try to write at least 3 sentences in your paper to describe one of your classmates. And let us guess who he/she is. Dont mention his/her name. Then the teacher asks one student to read what he/she writes to the whole class and get them to guess who he/she is.Step 10 Role-play the conversation.1. Explain the meaning of the conversation to the class and teach them new words in this parts. competition, fantastic, which, clearly, win, though 2. Get the students to listen to the conversation and then ask one pair to read the conversation before class.3. Group work Divide the class into 2 groups and practice the conversation twice4.
