(3分)阅读理解 The idea of being able to walk on water has long interested humans greatly. Sadly, biological facts prevent us ever accomplishing such a thing without artificial aid-we simply weigh too much, and all our mass pushes down through our relatively small feet, resulting in a lot of pressure that makes us sink. However, several types of animals can walk on water. One of the most interesting is the common basilisk Basilicus basilicus, a lizard(蜥蜴) native to Central and South America. It can run across water for a distance of several meters, avoiding getting wet by rapidly hitting the waters surface with its feet. The lizard will take as many as 20 steps per second to keep moving forward. For humans to do this, wed need huge feet that we could bring up to our ears in order to create adequate hitting. But fortunately there is an alternative: cornflour. By adding enough of this common thickening agent to water (and it does take a tot), you can create a non-Newtonian liquid that doesnt behave like normal water. Now, if the surface of the water is hit hard enough, particles(粒子) in the water group together for a moment to make the surface hard. Move quickly enough and put enough force into each step, and you really can walk across the surface of an adequately thick liquid of cornflour.Fun though all this may sound, its still rather messy and better read about in theory than carried out in practice. If you must do it, then keep the water wings handy in case you start to sink and take a shower afterward!(1)Walking on water hasnt become a reality mainly because humans .A . are not interested in itB . have biological limitationsC . have not invented proper toolsD . are afraid to make an attempt(2)What do we know about Basilicus basilicus from the passage? A . It is light enough to walk on water.B . Its huge feet enable it to stay above water.C . It can run across water at a certain speed.D . Its unique skin keeps it from getting wet in water.(3)What is the function of the cornflour according to the passage? A . To create a thick liquid.B . To turn the water into solid.C . To help the liquid behave normally.D . To enable the water to move rapidly.(4)What is the authors attitude toward the idea of humans walking on water? A . It is risky but beneficial.B . It is interesting and worth trying.C . It is crazy and cannot become a reality.D . It is impractical though theoretically possible.38. (4分)阅读理解 When you write a text message or an email, you might put a smiling face or other pictures at the end to make the message more fun. These pictures are emojis. The first emojis were on Japanese mobile phones in the 1990s. Later, they were used on Apples iPhone and Android phones. Now they are everywhere! Before emojis, there were emoticons. The word is a mixture(混合) of emotion(感情) and icon(图标). Emoticons are made of the signs you can find on your keyboard, for example:) for a smiley or ;-for a rose. The first use of :-)was in 1982 and it was called joke marker. Emoji is a Japanese word which means pictograph: e(picture) +moji (character). Emojis are real pictures, for example ,or . There are 1851emojis that can be used on mobile phones and other devices. There are all kinds of emojis, from faces and weather to things in the kitchen and animal. In England, we have a saying: A picture paints a thousand words. For many people, an emoji is like a punctuation mark(标点). Its like the tone of voice when we speak on the phone, or hand movements(gestures) used in conversation. Emojis are also changing the way we write. The more we use emojis, the less we use slang(俚语), such as LOL or OMG.When someone speaks and looks serious, we try to look serious, too, and when someone smiles, we smile as well. This is how we show empathy(同感) and make friends(and enemies!). But when were online, we cant see the persons face and theres no emotion. The invention of emojis changed that! Scientists in Australia have discovered that when we look at a smiley face online, the same parts of the brain start working as when we look at a real smiley face. Our mood changes, and we try to change our face to match the emoji. This is something we learn as we get older. Our brains have developed this ability over the last two or three years. This means that emojis have created a new brain pattern(模式)in us!(1)Where does the writer of this passage possibly come from? A . AustraliaB . JapaneseC . AmericaD . Britain(2)What is NOT true about Paragraph 3? A . Some slang is used less often because of emojis.B . We no more need words.C . An Emoji adds emotions to our messages.D . An Emoji makes people feel face to face.(3)What is (=) according to the passage? A . an emojiB . a pictureC . an emoticonD . a sound(4)What can we learn from the passage? A . Emojis will make our words disappear.B . Emojis have greatly influenced us in many ways.C . We dont need to speak to others or meet others any more.D . Scientists are worried about this invention of emojis.39. (4分)阅读理解 Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is a lovely song for children, but it has two misunderstandings (误解). First, stars arent little. Some may be Earth-sized, but most are bigger than Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system (太阳系). Second, they dont twinkle; they shine. And the brightness and color of the light from each star provide information about its temperature, size and even its age. viewing the stars from Earth is a bit like looking at them through a water filter (过滤器) because the air is thick compared to the emptiness of space. What is more, air is always moving, so starlight appears to be moving, too. The air also makes stars appear dimmer (暗淡的) than they would be if we could see them from space. If you stop and look at the sky carefully on a dark and moonless night, its easy to find color differences among stars. The color of a star is a signal of its surface temperature. The hottest stars are blue, and the next hottest are white. Yellow stars like the sun are next, while red stars are the coolest of the visible (可见的) stars. Many red stars are so dim that people cant see them at all, and some stars hardly send out any light at all. One reason that stars different in brightness is that hotter stars produce more energy than cooler ones, but another important reason is that some are much bigger than others. Some stars appear brighter to humans simply because theyre closer. Astronomers rank (排列) the brightness of stars which are seen from Earth by giving them a name known as magnitude (光度) -the smaller the magnitude, the brighter the object. They have also designed a number that ranks stars according to how bright they are when compared to each other. With a magnitude of minus 26.7, the sun is the brightest object in the sky.(1)From the song quite familiar to children, the writer wants to prove that . A . most stars are smaller than JupiterB . Jupiter is bigger and brighter than EarthC . stars are very large and always shine brightlyD . starlights brightness and color are the signs of its temperature(2)Magnitude is designed to see . A . how far a star is from EarthB . how bright a star is compared to other starsC . how far a star is from other starsD . how bright a star is seen from Earth(3)Which is the best title of this passage? A . What do stars look like?B . Which song do children like best?C . How to view the stars from Earth?D . Why are many stars so dim at night?40. (5分)阅读短文,根据要求完成文后的题目。 Tom comes from Australia.
