Unit 3 Could you please clean your room? Period 1 1. Teaching material 1) Teaching content analysis: This period is a listening and speaking class, which is from Unit 3 Section A 1a-1c in Grade 8 of the book GO FOR IT. It mainly talks about family chores and how to make polite requests, which are close to Ss lives. 2) Teaching aims Knowledge aimsa. Ss master some important words and expressions. For example, mess, rubbish, floor, do the dishes, fold your clothes, sweep the floor, make your bed, clean the living room, take out the rubbish. b. Ss catch the structure of making polite requests and answering for it. Could you please .? Yes, sure. No problem Certainly All right. Sorry, I cant. I have to. I am going to. Ability aims a. To catch the key words in the listening.b. Ss know how to make polite requests and how to answer for it. Emotional aims a. To explore Ss sense of doing chores and sharing responsibility.b. To develop Ss proper living habits3) Teaching key points and difficultiesKey points: some words and expressions about chores and the structure of how to make polite requests. Difficulty: the usage of the modal verb could in making polite requests. 2. Analysis of my Ss My students are Grade 8. They have had some cognitive ability, some listening and speaking ability and some teamwork ability. Also, last semester, they have learned unit 9 Can you come to my party ? and the modal verb “can” , so I think this class is not so difficult for them. Im also going to arrange a lot of activities to help them to join my class. 3. Teaching strategies and teaching aids 1) Teaching strategies: task-based language teaching, question and answer language teaching and situation language teaching. The whole lesson is carried out step by step questions and tasks. 2) Teaching aids: PowerPoint, recorder and blackboard 4. Teaching procedureStep1 Present the topic and function of this unit and this classI will tell Ss this unit includes two parts. The first one is about how to make polite requests. The second one is about how to ask for permissions. This class we will learn the first one. Purpose: Ss will know what they will learn in this classStep2 Warming up 1. I will show a picture and ask Ss to use one word to describe him. Some students will use some words to describe him like tired, busy, worried, upset.2. 2 Qs to help Ss think deeper1) In your family, who is the busiest? Most of Ss will say their mother.2) What chores does your mother do at home? Ss will say some chores. Purpose: To raise Sss interest and lead Ss to the topic of this class Step 3 Pictures present some chores and do a listing game1. Pictures show: make the bed, do/wash the dishes, fold the cloths, sweep the floor, clean the living room, take out the rubbish.Besides the textbook, I will present some other chores. For example, wash the clothes, water the flowers, clean the windows, clean the table.2. Do a listing gameSs take out a piece of paper. 3 minutes for Ss to list family chores. The more chores will be the winner.Purpose: Enrich Ss words about chores and practice them in an interesting way. Step 4 Arouse Ss sense of housework sharingAs to this step, Ill present 2 Qs for Ss1. In your free time, what do you usually do at home? Ss possible answers: watch TV, listen to music, hang out with friends, go shopping, play computer games.2. Do you do these chores at home? Some Ss do some housework, some Ss never do it.Purpose: To develop Ss sense of housework sharing.Step 5 Pre-listening 1. Show a picture of Peters messy home. 2. Ask Ss: If you are Peters mother, whats your feeling now? Ss possible answers: What a mess ; Im crazy; Im tired.3. Can you help Peters mother change the mess? Ss possible answers: ask hour-cleaners; ask Peters father to do some housework; ask Peter to do some housework. Purpose: To create listening situation. Step 6 While-listening 1. Check Peters mother and Peters housework sharing. The first time: Ss complete the box in 1b and ask 2 Ss to answer them.The second time: the box is an easy job for Ss. I will present the listening material on PPT. Then I will play it again and ask Ss to check it by themselves.Purpose: Develop Ss ability of catching the key words in listening. 2. (make polite request,more politely)Purpose: Ss master the usage of model verb could.Step 7 Post-listeningPair-work: A roles father or mother, B roles son or daughter.5 mins to make a conversation to share family housework.And one question for the listeners: What chores will they do?A will., B will.Purpose: Practice how to make polite requests in pairs and develop Ss ability of cooperation, listening and speaking out .Step 8 Summary and homework Do a summary of this class (how to make polite requests) Homework: period 1 of exercises books and make a conversation to share your family chores by yourself.Purpose: Help Ss to get an overview of this class.5. Teaching reflection The topic of this class is about family chores, which are close to Ss
