Many girls are becoming the victims of the harmful behaviors of the female bully.Emma Tracey was a popular 17-year-old and a well-liked athlete who had already won a soccer scholarship to college. But none of that stopped Emma from becoming the target of online girl on girl bullying (欺凌). Emma began to receive hundreds of online unpleasant comments via the latest social networking site called .In March 2011, Emma committed suicide and although all agreed that the online bother was not the single factor that led to Emma death, everyone did agree that it was a contributory factor.Unfortunately, Emma story is not unique. A 2010 study conducted by the Cyberbullying Research Center states: “Cyberbullying victims were almost twice as likely to have attempted suicide compared to youth who had not experienced cyberbullying. Girls are 57% more likely to be victims of aggressive cyberbullying and 92% more likely to be the criminals.”Suicide is obviously the extreme and no one can minimize the tragedy of it. However, there are other damages that occur as a result of aggressive bullying. It can damage self-confidence and lead to feelings of worthlessness, and also increase social isolation and make victims become withdrawn, depressed, anxious, and unsafe. So what causes girls to be so unkind towards each other?A term known as relational aggression may best describe the cause of girl on girl bullying. It starts with a clique (派系) usually led by a girl with a high level of social status and popularity. In order not to lose her position, she will control girls within the clique and take action if she feels threatened. At the leaders directive the girls within the clique will spread rumors and lies and annoy other girls continuously. The bullying starts at school but will quickly go to cyberbullying due to anonymity (匿名) and lack of punishment. Girls will easily do so in the anonymity of the Internet. Finally the cause will be summarized as the unsafety and jealousy of one girl and the twisted loyalty of members within her clique. Underneath the confident exterior (外表) of a female bully lie desperate unsafety.36The example of Emma Tracey is given to show .A.popular youth are not easy to become the target of bullying B.todays youth dont like to study any more C.suicide is a serious problem among youth D.cyberbullying is quite common among teenagers37The bullying will quickly go to cyberbullying mainly because .A.its free to post comments online B.the bullies dont have to give their names online C.it will not attract much attention D.it will not affect their real life38Which of the following is NOT the cause of bullying?A.Lack of safety.B.The twisted loyalty of members within a clique. C.Jealousy of others.D.Trying to be friendly.39We can infer from the last paragraph that a female bully_ .A.has strong self-confidenceB.has strong leadership skills C.is actually weak insideD.is usually good at studyBStanley Yelnats was given a choice. The judge said,“You may go to prison,or you may go to Camp Green Lake.”Stanley was from a poor family. He had never been to camp before. So, Stanley Yelnats seems set to serve an easy sentence, which is only fair because he is as innocent as you or me. But Stanley is not going where he thinks he is.Camp Green Lake is like no other camp anywhere. It is a place that has no lake and nothing green. Nor is it a camp,at least not the kind of camp kids look forward to in the summertime. It is only a desert wasteland, dotted with countless holes dug by the boys who live at the camp.At Camp Green Lake, the warden(看守)makes the boys“ build character” by spending all day, every day, digging holes:five feet wide and five feet deep. It doesnt take long for Stanley to realize theres more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is searching for something, and before long Stanley begins his own searchfor the truth. Fate is to find a solution to it allthe family curse, the mystery of the holes. The great wheel of justice has ground slowly for generations, but now it is about to reveal its verdict(裁决).40Stanley Yelnats went to Camp Green Lake to_.A.enjoy the summertimeB.show his innocence C.Serve his sentenceD.make a choice41We can learn from the passage that Stanley_.A.stole the shoes for his relativeB.got the shoes by accident C.donated the shoes to an auctionD.blamed the judge for the sentence42In fact, the warden made the boys dig holes to_.A.kill the timeB.build character C.break the family curseD.look for something43In which section of a newspaper does this passage probably appear?A.Law.B.Geography.C.News.D.Literature.CThere is nothing in the US quite like Black Friday. Before midnight on Thursday, in malls across the US, people start queuing up outside the locked entrances of stores, making longer and longer lines, holding coupons (优惠券), sipping coffee and hot chocolate, rubbing their hands and stamping (跺脚) their feet for warmth, excitedly chatting, and waiting for the clerks to open the door when the time arrives.Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, which fell on Nov 28,2014, “has become in recent decades a special American holiday”, said the International Business Times. Indeed, up to 147 million Black Friday shoppers were expected to put up with the dark of night and the elbows(手肘)of other shoppers so that they could bring home some bargains, according to the US National Retail Federation. But why does the shopping festival have such a name? The name was first used in Philadelphia in the 1970s. The streets and sidewalks of the city became so packed with traffic and crowds on the day after Thanksgiving Day that the local police did not look forward to it. Because of this, they called the day “Black Friday”, said The Huffington Post. However, others believe that Black Friday takes its name from the fact that because of the increase in sales on the day, shops are able for the first time in the year to move out of the “red” that is, debt and into the “black”, or profit. Businesses, of course, try to take advantage of this day. A decade ago, retailers (零售商) opened at 5 or 6 am. Now, many of the big stores open at midnight.People really seem to like the whole experience of queuing up before midnight, “for it isnt just about the bargains”, noted CNN. “For many shoppers, its just fun to be part of a large crowd. Those who go to the malls at midnight are driven by the same thing that makes a million people get together in Times Square each New Years Eve.”44Which of the following statements about Black Friday is TRUE?A.It is a special day in the US on which government hands out coupons to customers. B.It is a shopping festival in the US that falls on the second Friday after Thanksgiving. C.It has been a traditional American holiday since the founding of the nation. D.It is an opportunity for Americans to get things they want at a much lower price.45According to The Huffington Post, the name of “Black Friday” may be first used _.A.at the beginning of the 20th century in the US B.by American people who expected to bring home bargains after Thanksgiving Day C.by the police to show their displeasure toward heavy traffic caused by shopping crowds D.to describe the bad weather on the day46According to the article, people who queue up for Black Friday _.A.usually help each other to find good bargains B.have great fun as part of the waiting crowd C.have a lot of complaints about the service of the retail clerks D.have to wait until 5 to 6 am to start shopping47What is the article mainly about?A.The shopping habits of Americans. B.An introduction to the origin and influences of Black Friday. C.Tips on how to get good bargains on Black Friday. D.Peoples mixed feelings toward Black Friday.DMy first job was working for a womens clothes manufacturer at the age of 15. It made me realize what I didnt want to do for my future employment. The only advantage of this job was receiving a wage at the end of the week and sometimes getting clothes for free if they were to my taste. I carried on doing this for only a year, as my studies at school were getting more serious and I wanted to study more to get the right grades. After I had finished college, my first real job was working for a play publisher in central London. I remember writing a letter of application for the post of administration for Samuel French Limited. I had put so much effort into writing it, not realizing that this would be my first step in the process of finding out what I really wanted to do for my future employment. I didnt think I would get the job, but as it turned out, I got a telephone call quickly and started a week later. I remember being excited that I would be working for a publisher in London. Although I had thought I would prefer to work for a book publisher, a play publisher was just as enjoyable.Looking back now, not all first jobs turn out to be enjoyable. Some of my friends worked in supermarkets while they were at college just to earn a bit of money. I remember thinking how much happier I felt working in a clothes factory than in a supermarket.Years later, I can see how good it is to experience work at an early age, as it gives people the opportunity to decide what kind of career will be most suitable for them one day. The boring task of a job will make a person want to pursue an education to get into the right type of employment, which was what I had realized in the end.48The author did her first job for only a year because _.A.the clothes made there didnt suit her taste B.she really didnt like such a boring job C.she wanted to get the right grades at school D.she didnt get well paid at the end of the week49What can we learn about the author in the third paragraph?A.She was confident that she could get the first job. B.She telephoned Samuel French Limited for a post. C.She was aware of the importance of writing the application letter. D.She used to think she would prefer to work for a book publisher.50It could be inferred from the text that the author _.A.took her first job in order to support her poor family B.realized what her first job meant to her future employment C.had a great interest in her first job in a clothes factory D.thought her friends job in supermarkets was more interesting51What would be the best title for the text?A.My Experience in a Clothes FactoryB.The Qualities of a Play Publisher C.Importance of Early Work ExperienceD.The Secrets to Get the Right GradesEWorking with a group of baboons (狒狒) in the Namibian desert, Dr. Alecia Carter of the Department of Zoology,CambridgeUniversityset baboons learning tasks involving a novel food and a familiar food hidden in a box. Some baboons were given the chance to watch another baboon who already knew how to solve the task, while others had to learn for themselves. To work out how brave or anxious the baboons were, Dr. Carter presented them either with a novel food or a threat in the form of a model of a poisonous snake. She found that personality had a major impact on learning. The braver baboons learnt, but the shy ones did not learn the task although they watched the baboon perform the task of finding the novel food just as long as the brave ones did. In effect, despite being made aware of what to do, they were still too shy to do what the experienced baboon did.The same held true for anxious baboons compared with calm ones. The anxious individuals learnt the task by observing others while those who were relaxed did not, even though they spent more time watching. This mismatch between collecting social information and using it shows that personality plays a key role in social learning in animals, something that has previously been ignored in studies on how animals learn to do things. The findings are significant because they suggest that animals may perform poorly in cognitive (认 知的)tasks not because they arent clever enough to solve them, but because they are too shy or nervous to use the social information. The findings may impact how we understand the formation of culture in societies through social learning. If some individuals are unable to get information from others because they dont associate with the knowledgeable individuals, or they are too shy to use the information once they have it, information may not travel between all group members, preventing the formation of a culture based on social learning.52What is the first paragraph mainly about?A.The design of Dr. Carters research. B.The results of Dr. Carters research. C.The purpose of Dr. Carters research. D.The significance of Dr. Carters research.53According to the research, which baboons are more likely to complete a new learning task?A.Those that have more experience. B.Those that can avoid potential risks. C.Those that like to work independently. D.Those that feel anxious about learning.54Which best ill
