Teaching plan How often do you exercise?Topic:How often do you exercise? ( A reading lesson of Unit2 of 8A in Go For It!)整体设计思路及指导依据说明:It is a reading lesson. It is about the second unit of Grade 8A in Go For It. The topic is “How often do you exercise?” Since this is the fifth period of unit 2, students have already had a general concept of frequency words. But they may not know how to use them accurately in a free time activity report. Percentages are totally new to them. They add difficulties to the understanding of the article and furthermore to the writing of a report. In this case, I design main topic for this lesson, that is “report on free time activities.” It is close to students lives and can arouse their interests. All the tasks are aimed to help students talk and write about free time activities and when they do them. In this lesson, I will mainly use Task-Based language Teaching Method. I think if I want to improve my students oral English, I must give them more chances to practice. That is “learning by doing, learning by using”. In this case, I designed a lot of tasks according to New English Curriculum. I will lead my students to study and cooperate with each other. Because New English Curriculum points out that the general aim of English teaching in this stage of Junior Education is to cultivate students comprehensive ability of using English. I think my teaching methods are in line with the requirement of New English Curriculum.教学背景分析: The students in Grade 8 have the ability to use the target language to describe their free ttime life. “Free time activities” is an interesting topic that they will take a great interest in. Besides frequency words, students are supposed to master the usage of percentages in asurvey report. Students made a lot of mistakes when first met these language points in Grade 8. So it is important for us to practice these points over and over again.教学目标: 1. Review frequency words. 2. Enable students to use percentages in a free time activity report教学重点难点分析:The key points in this lesson: 1. Learn to report free time activities by using frequency words and percentages2. To improve the abilities of students of speaking, reading and writing.The difficulties: 1. through sth., by doing sth., 2. The differences of although and but3. Some difficult sentence patterns.4. Frequency words and percentages often appear together教学过程设计:Step 1 Warming-up and lead-in ( 2)Just as the saying goes “ Well begun is half done”, I think a good start is important in any lesson. I will greet my students, and encourage them to communicate with me. First of all, I will introduce myself,. Then I will show them some photos of my free time life. Then I will invite students to look at some pictures of popular free time activities and say them out. Then I will let students to find out what the most popular activities are. Students will be very interested in talking about this topic. Step 2 Pair Work and a chant ( 5)First, I will guide my students to go on the topic of free time activities by pair work. They are supposed to use the sentence pattern “how often” and frequency word. Students will learn to think themselves, ask questions and answer questions themselves, raise and solve problems themselves. Then, I design a chant for them. We can chant like this “never, never, never eat junk food/ often, often, often go shopping.” After that, students will play a game “stand up and say”. This can help the them to get familiar with percentages. The chant and the game will help us make the second high point of this lesson.Step 3 Skimming & Scanning ( 5)In this step, by skimming, I will ask students to get the three topics “exercise, use of the Internet and watching TV”. I will ask students to find out the key words for each paragraph by scanning. The master of these two reading skills may greatly enhance students reading abilities since they can improve reading efficiency with regard to the time limit. They are of great significance to all the students.Step 4 Intensive Reading ( 8)In this step, I will encourage students to read for information themselves. They are supposed to find out the right percentages for each pie chart. After checking answers, I design a matching game to help students to understand the fact that percentages and frequency words often come together. Step 5 Jigsaw reading and quick responses ( 5)In this step, I will ask students to do a jigsaw reading. I have shortened the passage into a brief summary. The useful expressions are emphasized in red color. The right groups just need to read what is in red, like “asked students about.” “the answers to our questions” and so on, while the other groups read what is in black. During the reading process, students get familiar with them and know the situations to use them. They also understand the passage better. This prepares them for the coming quick responses. The responses test how much students get from the passage.Step 6 A game: Thats me ( 6)In this step, I will explain the difficult language points such as “by doing sth, through sth., although, its good to do sth.” to students through a game. I will ask students to stand up and say “Thats me” if they do the same things. Then, I will encourage students to make up sentences like “Its good to see you./ Its bad to eat junk food” and so on. This will be the second high point of this lesson. Students can master the difficult language points in a very fun and creative way. Step 7 Discussion ( 6)In this step,first, I will encourage students to discuss whether the students in NO.5 High School are healthy or unhealthy. Tell me “why” or “why not”. Then, I will help them to find out their own old habits such as “ playing computer games too often”, “eating too much junk food”, and “ drinking too much coca”. This is the third high point in this lesson. Students not only think about their own old habits in a reasoning way, but learn the importance of having a healthy lifestyle.Step 8 Make a survey and give a report ( 8)In this step, I will give my students five activitity topics like playing sports and going shopping. Then they will make a survey in their group and design
