She wants me to be her friend and nobody elses. You talk to Marcy. You tell her that I want to be her friend, but I can have other friends, too!”Oh! I looked at her for a few moments, wondering how I got into this mess (困境), when suddenly an idea came to me.Picking up two baskets from the living room, I explained, “When everyone is born, he or she has a little basket. This little one here is yours. The big one is mine. As you grow, so does the basket. You can see your little basket is inside mine because when you were born, there were too many things you couldnt do for yourself. I did everything you couldnt do on your own.”She nodded.“Well, as you grew older and began to do some things on your own, I began placing a few more things in your basket. When you learned to tie your shoes, that went in your basket.”She said softly, “I can tie my own shoes.”“Right. As you grow older, there will be more and more things you must do on your own.” As I spoke, I gradually took her basket out of mine and handed it to her. “You will finally carry your own basket with things only you can do.”She looked up at me and said, “I understand. There are some things that I have to do for myself because they are in my basket.”21. What was Saras problem?A. She didnt have a basket. B. She didnt want her own basket.C. She couldnt deal with her friendship. D. Her mother was too hard on her.22. How did the author feel when she heard her daughters problem?A. Angry. B. Helpless. C. Crazy. D. Proud.23. We can infer that Sara _.A. wouldnt make friends with Kathy B. managed to persuade her mother to help her C. was too young to deal with anything D. would talk to Marcy herself24. The baskets mentioned in the passage refer to _.A. growing abilities as you grow upB. something that people use to keep vegetablesC. gifts given by God when everyone is bornD. friendship that needs repairingBInside Out is one of my favorite Disney movies. The story is about a young girl named Riley who moves from Minnesota to San Francisco with her family and how she deals with her emotions through the move. These five emotions in Rileys brain are Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust (厌恶) and Sadness. These emotions play a very important role in her life. I can relate because I am an 11-year-old girl and I am very in touch with my emotions and pre-teen feelings. The film is extremely beautiful and you couldnt ask for better direction from Pete Doctor. The use of the right colors for the characters is great. For example, Joy is yellow, Sadness is blue,Disgust is green, Fear is purple and Anger of course is red. Sadness plays a main role in the story and it makes me wonder why we are told not to be sad. I think it is important to be sad when the time comes. The end of the movie pretty much got me and the whole audience (families, couples and even elderly people) in tears and I cried very hard.I recommend (推荐) this movie to anyone from 8 to 18 because it has enough joy in it for younger kids to like it even though it does have some sad moments. I believe that adults will like it too. And I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it connects to an older audience even though it is designed for a younger audience. I think younger children can see this, but a parent would have to explain some things to them after the movie.25. The author feels connected with the movie because she and the character Riley_.A. enjoy the same movie B. have the same move experienceC. have the same feelings D. have a similar family background26. After seeing the movie, the author has a new understanding of _.A. fear B. joy C. anger D. sadness27. In the authors eyes, the movie _.A. wont attract people over 18 B. is really unsuitable for childrenC. can easily be understood by younger kids D. will be popular among kids and adultsCBy the end of last year, a British woman had failed her driving theory(理论) test 110 times. But the woman is not giving up just yet. It is hard to believe that the 30-year-old, from Southwark, southeast London, has failed the test three times taking her total number of unsuccessful attempts(尝试)to a record 113. This year, the price of the test was lowered from 31 a time to25. Amazingly, if she had started sitting the exam at the age of 17, she would have sat it more than eight times a year for the past 13 years.Although no other learner has come close to the womans number of attempts to pass her driving theory test, several seem to be trying their best. A 30-year-old man from Peterborough has failed the theory test 86 times. A 27-year-old man from Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and a 39-year-old man from London have both failed their 66th attempt to pass the exam this year. And a 47-year-old man from Reading has struggled through 61 tests without any luck.Research shows that although men are said to be around six percent more likely to pass the practical(实践的)driving test than women, they are six percent less likely to pass their theory test. Even when learners manage to pass the theory test, some still struggle to master the practical exam and have to spend a lot of money on it.For example, one middle-aged man forked out at least2,294 sitting the practical driving test a record of 36 times before, thankfully, passing at his 37th attempt. The practical driving test, which lasts about 40 minutes, costs62 to take on a weekday or75 on an evening, weekend or holiday. It is generally considered more difficult than the theory test.28. How much has the woman spent on her driving theory test?A.2,825 B.3,410 C.3,503 D.3,48529. We can learn from the research that _.A. men do better when it comes to driving vehiclesB. women can pass the driving theory test easilyC. women drivers are often very dangerousD. more and more people cannot afford a driving test30. The underlined words “forked out” in the last paragraph can best be replaced by “_”.A. won B. found C. spent D. saved31. What is the text mainly about?A. Where to learn driving. B. How to pass a driving test.C. Slow learner drivers in Britain. D. Strict driving rules in Britain.DFor centuries, people have wondered about the strange things that they dream about. Some psychologists(心理学家) say that this nighttime activity of the mind has no special meaning. Others, however, think that dreams are an important part of our lives. In fact, many experts believe that dreams can tell us about a persons mind and emotions. Before modern times, many people thought that dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams in a scientific way.The Austrian psychologist, Sigmund Freud, was probably the first person to study dreams scientifically. He believed that dreams allow people to express the feelings, thoughts, and fears that they are afraid to express in real life. The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, once a student of Freud s. Jung, however, believed that the purpose of a dream was to communicate a message to the dreamer. He thought people could learn more about themselves by thinking about their dreams. For example, people who dream about falling may learn that they have too high an opinion of themselves. On the other hand, people who dream about being heroes may learn that they think too little of themselves.Modern-day psychologists continue to develop theories about dreams. For example, psychologist William Domhoff from UCSC (the University of California, Santa Cruz), believes that dreaming is a mental (精神的) skill that needs time to develop. His research shows that children do not dream as much as adults.Another psychologist Adam Schneider, also from UCSC, has found that the dreams of men and women are different. For example, the people in mens dreams are often other men, and the dreams often involve fighting. This is not true of womens dreams. Can dreams help us understand ourselves? Psychologists continue to try to answer this question in different ways. However, one thing they agree on is this: If you dream that something terrible is going to occur, you shouldnt panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that some terrible event will actually take place.32. Before the 1900s, _.A. there were no scientific studies of dreamsB. people considered dreams meaninglessC. psychologists had no idea about dreamsD. dreams were thought to happen only at night33. We can infer from Carl Jungs research that _.A. dreams are an expression of a persons wishesB. he disagreed with Freuds idea about dreamsC. he proved that Freuds idea about dreams was trueD. how people think of themselves is affected by their dreams34. Who found a connection between dreams and age?A. Carl Jung B. Sigmund Freud C. William Domhoff D. Adam Schneider35. Whats the best title for the text?A. Are Dreams Real? B. Whats a Dream?C.
