These inventions should be better known, even though I think that some of them are crazy. Lets have a look at some of these inventions and see if you agree that they should be more successful. The Australians had a great idea to stop people from drinking and driving. The idea was that if a driver wanted to start the car, she or he would have to blow into a bag first. If there was too much alcohol (酒精) in their breath, the car wouldnt start. It sounded like a great idea to me, but people said that they might need to drive the car in an emergency (紧急情况) even if they had drunk too much alcohol. Another idea I liked was an invention by a scientist who thought his children watched too much TV. He connected the TV to an exercise bike so that the electricity to power the TV was produced by the bike. If the children wanted to watch a lot of TV, they had to pedal (踩动) very hard. I found another invention on the Internet which encouraged good habits. Believe it or not, this invention was an ashtray (烟灰缸) which spoke to you when you lit a cigarette! The “voice” of the ashtray was started by the heat from the cigarette and reminded you how dangerous it is to smoke. One of the strangest inventions I have come across is a bicycle which can cross rivers! The idea was that when you came to a river, you couldinflatea huge plastic ball all around the bike. You would then get into the ball which would float on the river while you pedaled the bike inside the ball! Why not use a bridge instead? A friend of mine at school once bought a strange pair of football shoes. On the bottom of the shoes there was a rotating pad of studs (转动钉垫). The idea was that you would change direction more quickly if the studs rotated with you. The problem was that every time you stopped you changed direction whether you wanted to or not! I think he wore those shoes twice! One thing I would like is a baseball cap with a built-in radio so you can listen to sport all day with your hands free. While we are on the subject of sport, the Americans invented a kind of robot for sports fans. If you were watching your team on TV on your own, you could press a button and the robot would do “high fives” with you! Fantastic! I wonder if you have any good ideas for inventions like these.31 . Whats the writers attitude towards the inventions mentioned in Paragraph 2?AThe writer regrets he knew nothing about the inventions.Bhe writer doubts if the inventions will be popular soon.CThe writer thinks these inventions will do good to people.DThe writer finds these inventions are the strangest of all.32 . The underlined word “inflate” in the third paragraph means _.Acheck outBblow upClook intoDturn over34 . Whats the best title for the passage?APopular Inventions TodayBTechnology and InventionCInventions with a DifferenceDThe History of InventionIt was a village in India. The people were poor. However, they were not unhappy. After all, their forefathers (祖先) had lived in the same way for centuries. Then one day, some visitors from the city arrived. They told the villagers there were some people elsewhere who liked to eat frogs legs. However, they did not have enough frogs of their own, and so they wanted to buy frogs from other places. This seemed like money for nothing. There were millions of frogs in the fields around, and they were no use to the villagers. All they had to do was to catch them. Agreement was reached, and the children were sent to the fields to catch frogs. Every week a truck arrived to collect the catch and hand over the money. For the first time, the people were able to dream of a better future. But the dream didnt last long. The change was hardly noticed at first, but it seemed as if (好像) the crops(庄稼) were not doing so well. More worrying was that the children fell ill more often, and there seemed to be more insects around lately. The villagers decided that they couldnt just wait to see the crops failing and the children getting weak. They would have to use the money theyd just had to buy pesticides (杀虫剂) and medicine. Soon there was no money left. Then the people realized that what was happening. It was the frogs. They hadnt been useless. They had been doing an important jobeating insects. Now with so many frogs killed, soon there were more and more insects. They were doing harm to both crops and people. Now, the people are still poor. But in the evening they sit in the village square and listen to sounds of insects and frogs._35 . What might be the cause of the childrens sickness?AThe crops didnt do well.BThere were too many insects.CThe visitors brought in disease.DThe pesticides were overused.37 . What can we learn from the last sentence of the passage?AGood old days will never be forgotten.BHealth is more important than money.CThe harmony between man and nature is important.DHappiness comes from peaceful life in the country. It is the duty of every man to work. The life of a lazy man is of no use to himself and to others. The man who is too lazy to work is the man whos generally most ready to beg or steal. Every boy should learn some useful work when he is young. But it is not enough that a boy should learn some kind of work. Heshould put his effort completely into his work, and not waste his free time. “Working while you work and playing while you play is as good a rule for young people as for the old.”There is no better help to diligence (勤奋) than the habit of early rising, and this, just like all other good habits, is most easily formed in youth. There is an English saying “Lost time never returns.” This means that everybody must be diligent and make good use of his time. One must study hard when one is young so that one can make great progress, succeed in life and become useful to ones country. Therefore, we can say that diligence is the mother of success.38 .
