Since I discovered it two years ago,Ive used music to get through boring work or to focus creatively. Ive found that it can make even the dullest jobs enjoyable and help clear mental blocks to creativity.I first noticed the good effects of music while playing video games. It was a few days before Christmas in 2020 and I was playing online video games. My parents had just given me a new MP3,so I decided to listen to music through the headphones while I played. After a few minutes I noticed a great change in my style of play. 1 was playing more naturally. The music relaxed me,and,to a certain extent, distracted me from the game, allowing my subconscious(潜意识的)talent to come through. The music also helped me block out the outside world. With those headphones on I was like a machine, moving from one task to the next without unnecessary thoughts or actions.Music can also have a great effect on mood. If Im in a bad mood at work,Ill listen to some of Bob Marleys and get down to business. It always takes my mind off what Im doing and makes me a happier person. The same is true for classic rock. One summer,I did a boring job collecting bottle openers by hand. Without a radio playing classic rock in the background,I would have hated life.Listening to music with relaxing rhythms and a positive message helps you forget your work and think happy thoughts. But the results you see will depend heavily on your personal tastes. Experiment with the types of music you listen to during certain tasks. By trial and error youll finally discover your best choice.Im always looking for new concentration aids,so Id love to know what type of music works best for me.1. Hoy stood up to throw the first ball of the World Series. Most people at Crowley Field on that day probably did not remember Hoy because he had retired(退休) from professional baseball 58 years earlier in 1903. However he had been an outstanding player and the deaf people still talk about him and his years in baseball.William E. Hoy was born in Houckstown Ohio on May 23, 1862. He became deaf when he was two years old. He attended the Columbus Ohio School for the deaf. After graduation he started playing baseball while working as a shoemaker.Hoy began playing professional baseball in 1886 for Oshkosh(Wisconsin) of the Northwestern League. In 1888 he started as an outfielder(外场手) with the old Washington Senators. His small figure and speed made him an outstanding base runner. He was very good at stealing bases during his career. In the 1888 major league season he stole 82 bases. He was also the Senators leading hitter in 1888. Hoy was clever and he threw right-handed and batted lefthanded. On June 19,1889 he threw out three batters(击球手) at the plate from his outfield position. The arm signals used by judges today to show balls and strikes began because of Hoy. The judge lifted his right arm to show that the pitch was a strike and his left arm to signal that it was a ball. For many years people talked about Hoys last ball game in 1903. He was playing for Los Angeles of the Pacific Coast Winter League. It was a memorable game because Hoy hit a wonderful ball which won the game. It was a very foggy day and therefore very hard to see the ball. In the ninth inning(棒球的一局) with two men out, Hoy managed to catch a fly ball to make the third out in spite of the fog. Los Angeles defeated their opposition and won the game. After he retired Hoy stayed busy. He ran a dairy farm near Cincinnati for 20 years. He also became a public speaker and travelled giving speeches. Until a few years before his death he took 410 mile walks several mornings a week. Hoy became deaf.),再找到最后一个发生的事件 (d. Hoy threw the first ball of the World Series.),故可排除A、C两项。再进行比较可知,B最佳。7. 解析:选D。推想判断题。根据最后一段第四句“Until a few years before his death he took 4-10 mile walks several mornings a week”可知,在他生命的最后岁月里,他的身体状况很好。8. 解析:选A。主旨大意题。纵观全文可知,应选A。9. 解析:选A。推理判断题。根据“he stole 82 bases.the Senatorsleading hitter.threw out three batters.managed to catch a fly ball to make the third out in spite of the fog”等细节,可以判断Hoy是他那个时代最杰出的棒球选手。.1. environment 2. It may lead to the uncovering of chariot pit groups that could be a key to understanding Chinese civilizations that existed more than 2,000 years ago.Experts said the relics are dated more than 300 years earlier than the famous warriors(武士)in Shanxi Province. What excited the experts were two other projects that located two huge pits with similar features.“It is absolutely a miracle. These relics indicate that there could be a tomb group in this area, which is likely to be important for Chinas archaeological(考古学的)studies,”said Ma Juncai,a leading relic researcher in the province. In ancient China, carts, sheep, spoons and so on were buried to ensure that dead people had a happy afterlife.
