So why was I standing in the schoolyard of an unfamiliar school, wearing myself out for a summer teaching job? The extra paychecks were nice, but I lacked the energy of my younger colleagues, like Stella. She was in her early twenties, and could keep up with the kids without effort. She reminded me of myself, back when I was an enthusiastic student teacher at Ramona Elementary.Id never forget my first day. I was too full of energy. Nervous energy. My teacher who instructed me was watching, and I wanted to make a good impression. I asked my third graders to take out their crayons for the days lesson. All of them obeyed apart from one. A girl with two long, dark braids (辫子). Everyone called her Estrellita, or “little star.” Why was she unprepared for class? I demanded to know.“My sister has my crayons,” she said.“You should each have your own crayons,” I told her. “Thats no excuse.”“There are 10 children in my family,” Estrellita said quietly, her big brown eyes never leaving my face. “We have to take turns.”I was taken aback. Id completely misjudged the situation. All day Estrellitas words played on my mind. The next morning I bought a pack of crayons to leave on Estrellitas desk. She was so happy! That experience taught me an important lesson. Every student had unique challengesit was my responsibility to help my students overcome them, which used to inspire me.Rest was almost over. Stella turned to me and we started chatting. “How long have you been teaching?” she asked. I told her Id started twenty years before, at Ramona Elementary.“I went to school there twenty years ago!” Stella said. I looked at her again, this time really seeing her. Those big brown eyes. That long, dark hair.“Did you use to have two long braids?” I said. “We called you Estrellita “Stella shouted. “You ! You gave me the crayons!”Shed become a teacher. To help students as I did. Even doing something small that mattered. That summer, I threw myself into teaching with a renewed sense of purpose. Estrellita had taught me a lesson once again.24. B. quite pleased.C. very surprised. D. extremely angry.27. What did the author learn through Stella?A. Never make excuses. B. Why her job mattered.C. How to be a good teacher. D. To be a giver, not a receiver.C (2020课标全国)Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored (监控) in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules. By tracking peoples e-mails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.“The if it bleeds rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. “They want your eyeballs and dont care how youre feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You dont want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.”Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication e-mails, Web posts and reviews, face-to-face conversations found that it tended to be more positive than negative, but that didnt necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more good things than bad things? To test for that possibility, Dr. Berger looked at how people spread a particular set of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most e-mailed” list for six months. One of his first findings was that articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than non-science articles. He found that science amazed Times readers and made them want to share this positive feeling with others.Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that inspired negative feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. They needed to be aroused (激发) one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad. The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr. Berger explains in his new book, “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.”28. What do the classic rules mentioned in the text apply to? A. Research papers. B. Private e-mails.C. News reports. D. Daily conversations.29. What can we infer about people like Debbie Downer?A. Theyre socially inactive. B. Theyre good at telling stories.C. Theyre careful with their words. D. Theyre inconsiderate (不体谅别人的) of others.30. Which tended to be the most e-mailed according to Dr. Bergers research?A.Personal accounts. B. Sports news.C. Science articles. D. Financial reviews.31. What can be a suitable title for the text?A. Good News Beats Bad on Social NetworksB. Reading Habits Change with the TimesC. Sad Stories Travel Far and WideD. Online News Attracts More PeopleDCan dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about keeping a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along well. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog. However, it wasnt all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while attack and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals attack, while a dog doing the same signals of giving in.In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each others language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk dog, and dogs can learn how to talk cat.Whats interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn how to read each others body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously suspected. Once familiar with each others presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other. The significance of the research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets-to people who dont get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.32. What is the passage mainly about?A. How cats and dogs develop their intelligence.B. Whether cats and dogs can live in harmony.C. What cats and dogs have in common.D. Why cats and dogs can understand each other.33. Some cats and dogs may fight when _.A. they are cold to each otherB. they look away from each otherC. they are introduced at an early age D. they misunderstood each others signals34. It is suggested in Para.4 that cats and dogs _.A. have common interests B. have a common body languageC. are less different than we thought D. are less intelligent than we expected35. What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs?A. We should learn to live in harmony.B. We should know more about animals.C. We should live in peace with animals.D. We should learn more body languages.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Weve all heard about the power of our attitude, and its our attitude that determines how much we succeed in life. All the things that you have been through, all the people you have met and interacted with can have an impact on your attitude.
