The other nearby towns have much more to offer: Bradfield has its river and historic buildings, while Newtown has shops and entertainment. The buildings of Horton look dirty and unloved. For shops, there is a small supermarket, a few bargain shops, a bakery (面包店) which, strangely, does not sell bread and a flower shop which has one stand of sad-looking flowers. Even so, Horton has several advantages over its neighbouring towns.Firstly, it has a country park. Four thousand years ago, this was an important fort (要塞). There are no historic remains here now, but there are wonderful views over the countryside. On sunny weekends you can often see kids out with their parents, kicking balls or flying kites. There arent many job opportunities in Horton, and the roads to nearby cities arent really fast, but there are excellent rail links. You can be in London in an hour and a half, and other cities are less than an hour away. That means parents can work in other cities and still get home in time tospend the evenings with their families. Houses in Horton arent pretty, but theyre functional and cheap. The streets are quiet and safe, and there are plenty of parks and playgrounds. It has a library, three primary schools and a secondary school, St. Marks. Its not as excellent as other schools in the area, but it is friendly and offers a wide range of subjects and activities to children. The town also has a swimming and a sports centre, and the community halls hold regular clubs and events for people of all ages.19 . What part of Horton isnt the writer satisfied with?AThe shops.BThe country park.CTransport links.DThe schools.20 . What advantages does Horton bring to workers?APlenty of jobs are easily found in the town.BYou can get to several cities quickly by train.CYou can drive to nearby cities in a short time.DWorking conditions are better here than in other towns.21 . What type of people is Horton most suitable for?APeople who have well-paid jobs.BPeople who have low-paid jobs.CFamilies which have elderly people.DStudents who love sport and history.22 . Which of the following sentences described Horton best?AA quiet, country town which has a number of good places to relax.BA dirty, unpopular town which has little to offer visitors or local people.CA busy, industrial town which has good connections to neighbouring cities.DA friendly, historic town which is a great place to live, work and take a holiday.四、句型转换句型转换23 . Whenever there is a Bank Holiday weekend, a certain (某个) kind of shop always gets very busy, and its not what you might thinkclothes shops or music shops. The British people go to DIY stores and garden centers. Large numbers of people spend their days doing home improvement (改善) instead of relaxing. Ding DIY is very popular in Britain, and there are lots of DIY programmes which show people how to improve their homes. Some people just do some simple decoratingputting up wall-paper and painting walls. There are all kinds of DIY projects that some people decide to do, like laying a new carpet (地毯), tiling (贴瓷砖) walls or putting in a new shower. Unluckily, some people start doing a job which ends in DIY disaster. For example, electrical things should be done by a special worker, but many people dont care about this warning and putting themselves in danger. Gardening is also popular, and a good way to enjoy the weather on a sunny Bank Holiday. But its not as simple as planting plants and doing some watering. More difficult work such as building a new garden or some decorations can cause backache. So why do people do it? Who knows? Maybe they are so used to working that they are not very good at relaxing. One thing is for sure, though a lot of DIY or gardening projects will be started with the best plans, many of them may not get finished.Bank Holiday DIYThe things British people like doing at the Bank Holiday weekendThey go to DIY shops and garden centers. The do some simple 43 . like putting up wall-paper and painting walls. They do some 44 . on a sunny Bank Holiday. The problems that the British people have when they DIYThey may put themselves in danger when doing some 45 . things.
