This standard was formulated by making reference to the International Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) CODEX STAN 108-1981, Rev 1-19971) Codex Standard for Natural Mineral Water. This standard shall replace GB 8537-1995 Drinking Natural Mineral Water. There have been some significant changes in this standard over GB 8537-1995 in the following aspects: mandatory text completely was changed to mandatory provisions; The definition of natural mineral water was perfected; Product classification was added; The specific provisions on the requirements for water source were deleted and the requirements for water source were implemented according to GB/T 13727 Geologic Exploration Specification of Natural Mineral Water; The bromide index among the boundary indexes was deleted; Four another limit indexes (stibium, manganese, nickel and bromate) were added, four limit indexes (cadmium, arsenium, boron and fluoride) were modified and four limit indexes (lithium, strontium, iodide and zinc) were deleted; Two pollutant indexes (anion synthetic detergent and mineral oil) were added and one pollutant index (nitrite) was modified; Three microbe indexes (Streptococcus faecalis, pseudomonas aeruginosa and clostridium perfringens) were added and one microbe index (aerobic bacteria count) was deleted; Appendix A Data Requirements for Water Source Assessment Report of Drinking Natural Mineral Water (Informative) was deleted and Appendix B was changed into Appendix A. Appendix A in this standard is informative. This national standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council. This standard is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 472 on Beverage of Standardization Administration of China. The previous editions of the standards replaced by this standard are as: GB 85371987 and GB 85371995. 1Drinking Natural Mineral Water 饮用天然矿泉水 1 Scope This standard specifies the product classification, requirements, inspection method, inspection rules as well as marking, packing, transportation and storage of drinking natural mineral water. This standard is applicable to the production, inspection and marketing of drinking natural mineral water. 2 Normative References The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated reference, subsequent modification to (excluding correction to), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all parties coming to an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest edition of these documents is applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document is applicable to this standard. GB 7718 General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods GB/T 8538 Methods for Examination of Drinking Natural Mineral Water GB/T 13727 Geologic Exploration Specification of Natural Mineral Water GB 16330 Hygienic Specifications of Factory for Drinking Natural Mineral Water 3 Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard. 3.1 Drinking natural mineral water It refers to the water that gushes naturally or collected through well drilling from deep under ground, contains a certain amount of mineral substances, microelements or other compositions, is not contaminated in a certain area and has been protected against contamination by taking preventive measures; generally, its dynamic indexes, such as chemical compositions, discharge and water temperature, are relatively stable within the natural periodical fluctuation range. 4 Product Classification 2According to the carbon dioxide content in the products, the products may be divided into: a) Carbonated natural mineral water: the natural mineral water that is with visible isogenous carbon dioxide releasing and foaming naturally under normal temperature and pressure after the water has been packaged; b) Carbonated natural mineral water: The natural mineral water treated to be foamed by filling carbon dioxide according to those specified in 5.3.2; c) Non-carbonated natural mineral water: A kind of natural mineral water with the free carbon dioxide content not exceeding the carbon dioxide content that is necessary for keeping the bicarbonate dissolved in water, after the water is treated and packaged according to those specified in 5.3.2; d) Degassed natural mineral water: A kind of natural mineral water without visible carbon dioxide releasing naturally under normal temperature and pressure after the water has been treated and packaged according to those specified in 5.3.2. 5 Requirements 5.1 Requirements for water source The exploration and evaluation of water source site, the protection of water source and the monitoring of the water source site shall be carried out according to GB/T 13727. 5.2 Water quality requirement 5.2.1 Appearance requirements The water appearance shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1. Note 2: If the inspection result is larger than or equal to 1 but is less than 2, then n samples shall be taken according to Table 6 for the second inspection. Note 3: If the inspection result is larger than or equal to 2, then this sample shall be reported as unqualified. Table 6 The Second Inspection Number of samples Limit Item n c m M Coliform bacteria 4 1 0 2 Streptococcus faecalis 4 1 0 2 Pseudomonas aeruginosa 4 1 0 2 Clostridium perfringens 4 1 0 2 Notes: nthe number of the samples that shall sampled from one same batch of products; cthe maximum allowable number of samples that may exceeding the M value, those exceeding this value will be judged as unqualified; mthe limit (CFU) for the maximum allowable acceptable level in every 250mL (or 50mL) sample; M the limit (CFU) for the unacceptable microbe in every 250mL (or 50mL) sample, those samples equal to or larger than the M value all shall be unqualified. 5.3 Requirements of processing technique 5.3.1 The natural mineral water shall be explored, processed and package on guaranteeing hygiene and safety of raw water and meeting those specified in GB 16330. 5.3.2 Under the premise of not changing the basis characteristics and main component contents of the source water of drinking natural mineral water, the unstable components may be removed through such methods as aeration, decantation and filtration; it is allowable to recycle and fill isogenous carbon dioxide; and it is also allowable to add food additive-carbon dioxide or to eliminate the carbon dioxide in water. 5.3.3 The raw water shall not be transported to another site with vessels for loading. 6 Inspection Methods The water quality requirement shall be inspected according to the method specified in GB/T 8538. 5The water quality assessment report of natural mineral water may be filled according to Annex A. 7 Inspection Rules 7.1 Sampling Random sampling quantity of each batch of products: at least 10 bottles for those products with net content less than 3L; at least 5 barrels for those products with net content no less than 3L. 7.2 Delivery inspection 7.2.1 The batch of product shall be determined according to corresponding rules. For each batch of products to be delivered, the appearance requirements and the coliform bacteria, pseudomonas aeruginosa in the microbe indexes shall be inspected. 7.2.2 The streptococcus faecalis and clostridium perfringens content shall be inspected at least once every month. 7.3 Type inspection All the items specified in the technical requirements of this standard are type inspection items and shall be inspected at once during the high water period and low water period every year or shall be inspected if any one of the following conditions appears: When the equipments are replaced and the technique is with great variations; When reinstating the production after production halts; When the delivery inspection result has relatively big differences from the usual records; When the water quality is with relatively big fluctuation. 7.4 Criterion rules If the inspection items do not meet those specified in this standard, a double number of samples shall be taken randomly from this batch of products to inspect the unqualified items again and the decision shall be subject to the reinspection result. If there is still one item among the reinspection items is unqualified, then this batch of products will be judged as unqualified products. The microbe indexes shall be inspected and judged according to the requirements of 5.2.3. 8 Marking, Parking, Transportation and Storage 8.1 Marking 8.1.1 The labeling of prepackaged products not only shall comply with the relevant regulations of GB 7718, but also shall meet the following requirements: Indicating the name of water source site of natural mineral water; Indicating the boundary indexes, content of total dissolved solids and the content range of primary positive ions (K+, Na+, Ca2+ and Mg2+) for qualified products; The Fluorine-containing letters shall be labeled if the fluorine content is larger than 1.0mg/L; 6The product type shall be labeled, which may be indicated in a attribute form before the product name, for instance: natural mineral water; or the product name natural mineral water shall be labeled with the product type like gassy or carbonated under it; however, the product type may not be labeled for the non-carbonated and degassed natural mineral water. 8.1.2 Unless otherwise being examined and approved by the relevant departments of the state, the product label shall not cover any words on medical effect. 8.2 Packing 8.2.1 The packing materials shall conform to the requirements of the relevant sanitation standards of the state. 8.2.2 The external part of packing containers (bottles and barrels) shall be kept clean, these containers shall be covered tightly without leakage phenomenon, and the label shall be sealed and stuck firmly. 8.3 Transportation 8.3.1 The means of transportation shall be kept clean and hygienic. The products shall not be transported by filled mixedly with toxic, harmful, corrosive or volatile articles or articles with peculiar smell. 8.3.2 The products shall be handled with care and are strictly forbidden being thrown, impacted or extruded. 8.3.3 During the transportation process, the products shall not be insolated, drenched, wetted or f
