Then ask: Q1. What is this piece of news about? Q2. What is a piece of news like in your mind? Q3. What elements should a piece of news have? Q4. If you were the young man in the news, will you help the old woman like him?2.Guide Ss to have a free talk in groups and share their ideas with each other.Step2: Reading Practice阅读训练1.Pre-reading 读前导入 1.1Guide Ss to look at the title and the picture going with it only and make a prediction before reading.Q1. What can you see from the picture?Q2. What do you want to know from the picture? 1.2 Present several difficult words and phrases before reading like, passenger, get off, get onto/on, to ones surprise. 2.While-reading 读中理解 2.1 Ask Ss to read the passage very fast and make sure if the story comes from a book or a newspaper. T may ask:-Do you think it comes from a book or a newspaper? -How do you know? In this way, the teacher can help the students understand the type of writing of the story. 2.2 Ask Ss to read the passage fast again and find out what each paragraph is about of this passage. Para 1 Some important facts of the news. Para 2 The details of the news. Para 3 The end and views of the news. 2.3 Guide Ss to read Para.1 very carefully and then answer the following questions: 1. When did the news happen? 2. Where did the news happen? 3. Who were in the news? 4. What was the news about?Answers:1. At 9:00 a.m. yesterday. 2. On Zhonghua Road.3. The driver, a woman and an old man.4. The driver saw an old man lying on the road and a woman was shouting for help.2.4 Guide Ss to read Para.2 very carefully and then match the answers with different people(bus driver; the woman; the passengers). In this way, the students can understand more clearly what different people did to help the old man.Answers:Bus driver: stopped the bus; knew he had to act quickly; got off and asked what happened; told the passengers he had to helpWoman: said that the man had a heart problemPassengers: helped Mr. Wang to move the man; agreed to help the bus driver2.5 Get Ss to read Para.3 very carefully and then answer the true or false questions: 1. The old man died in the end. 2. Many people dont help others because of trouble. 3. Mr. Wang only thought about saving a life. Answers: 1.F 2.T 3.T 2.6 Overall reading: Guide the Ss to read the whole passage again and then finish exercise 3b. 3.Post reading 读后理解 3.1 Guide Ss to discuss the questions and finish exercise 3c. 3.2 With the help of the key words listed by Ss themselves, train Ss how to retell the whole passage. Step 3. New points interpretation 新知感悟3.1 Discovering chunks 语块发现Get Ss to read the text once again, this time, and underline all the useful chunks in it. 1) At 9:00 a.m. yesterday, bus No.26 was going along Zhonghua Road when the driver saw an old man lying on the side of the road.2) A woman next to him was shouting for help.3) The bus driver, 24-year-old Wang Ping, stopped the bus without thinking twice.4) He expected most or all of the passengers to get off and wait for the next bus.5) But to his surprise, they all agree to go with him.6) Thanks to Mr. Wang and the passengers, the doctors saved the man in time. 7) Its said that many people dont want to help others because they dont want any trouble.提升及小结巩固练习Step4、Analyzing chunks 语块分析1.At 9:00 a.m. yesterday, bus No.26 was going along Zhonghua Road when the driver saw an old man lying on the side of the road. 昨天上午9点钟,26公交车正沿着中华路行驶,这时司机看见一位老人躺在路边。(1) was going为过去进行时。是表示过去某个具体时刻正在进行的事情或动作。结构 为 was/were +doing (现在分词)e.g. His father was cooking when he left home. 当他出门时他爸爸正在做饭。 We were watching TV when my uncle came to my house.当我舅舅来我家时我们在看电视。(2) see sb. doing sth. 看见某人正在做某事。强调正在发生 I saw him getting on a bus just now. 我看见他正在上公交车。辨析:see sb. do sth. 看见某人做某事,强调全过程。 I often see him_(play)basketball after school. (答案:play) I saw the girl_(play)the piano just now. (答案:playing)(3) lie-lay-lain-lying v.躺 When I got home, I saw my mother_(lie) on the sofa watching TV. (答案:lying) There are many people _(lie) on the beach to relax. (答案:lying)解析:以上两句中第一句考察seedoing;第二句考察there be sb. doing sth.+地点. 表示某处有人正在做某事。2.He got off and asked the woman what happened. 他下车询问妇女发生了什么情况。 get off 意为“下(汽车,火车,飞机等)”,反义词为 get on。 get into意为“进入”,后常跟较小的交通工具taxi, car ,反义为get out of 。3.happen 为不及物动词,意为“发生 ”。 How did the accident happen? 事故是怎么发生的? Do you know what is happening over there? 你知道那边正在发生什么事吗?表示“某人或某物发生某事”时,某物或某物必须放在介词to后,句型为sth. happens to sb. /sth.If anything happens to him, please let me know.如果他发生了什么事情,请让我知道。当happen做“碰巧”讲时,常用“sb. happens to do sth.”和it happens that。4.He expected most or all of the passengers to get off and wait for the next bus.他期待大部分或所有乘客下车去等待下一辆公交车。 expect sb. to do sth. 意为“期待某人做某事”。 Our teacher expects us to be there on time. 我们的老师期待我们按时到达那儿。 We all expect our English teacher to rest well because he is so tired all day.5.But to his surprise, they all agreed to go with him. 但是让他意外的是,他们都同意和他一起去。(1) to ones surprise:让某人吃惊 To her surprise, G.E.M. sings so well. 让她惊讶的是,邓紫棋唱歌如此好听。(2) agree to do sth.同意做某事 She agreed to let me go early. 她同意让我早走。 What you are doing is good for people. I agree to join you.联想:agree with sb. 同意某人6.Thanks to Mr. Wang and the passengers, the doctors saved the man in time.多亏王先生和乘客们,医生及时挽救了那位老人。 (1) thanks to多亏,由于,(thanks to 后接名词、代词或名词短语,在句中作原因状语,翻译为“多亏,由于的帮助”)Thanks to my English teacher, I got good grades. 多亏了我的英语老师,我取得了好成绩。区别:thanks for为而感谢 Thanks for your kindness. 感谢你的善良。 (2) in time及时. Tom got to the cinema in time and saw where are we going ,Dad?Tom 及时赶到电影院,看到了爸爸去哪儿。区别: on time 按时 We should finish homework on time. 我们应该按时完成作业。Using chunks 语块运用 Guide Ss to know the meanings of the following sentences and make similar new sentences of their own. And get some Ss to share their original sentences. 1.The bus driver, 24-year-old Wang Ping, stopped the bus without thinking twice.
