8、Jim couldnt run very fast when he was a boy.吉姆小时候不能跑很快。（1）请求别人允许或答复时一般用 can，could，may和may的过去 式 might。在这4个词中，can最常用，也最不正式；could比can表示更 “犹豫”和客气，通常用在不能确定请求是否会得到同意的时候；may 比can和could更正式、更客气、更恭敬；might显得最犹豫，也最客气 、最恭敬，但不及上述3个词常用。实际上，是一般性的请求时，can， could，may往往可以互换。含有情态助动词的普通答语为：肯定：Of course you can/may.你当然可以。
