There was a clue to its cause because it always started in the poor neighborhood. Then it spread to the richer areas as the servants passed it on. Many doc
21、tors suspected that polluted water was to blame and clean water was the cure. John Snows investigation proved that the dirtier the water, the more severe the illness. So the government and the doctors drew the conclusion that water must be purified. They instructed people to remove the handles form
22、pumps if the water was infected.
