3、mping trip,David could tell from the increasing roar of water in the narrowing valley that they were in serious trouble.There was no way theyd be able to rappel down the rocks as planned.They could wade(蹚水)to the shore,but would anyone find them there?They had no phone service,and they hadnt seen a
4、single person in the past three days.And David knew theyd be sharing the ground there with snakes and mountain lions.As he wondered what to do,David had a bit of luckhe heard voices coming from the other side of the falls.He yelled,but the sound of the rushing water drowned him out.“We have to get t
5、hese people a message,” David thought.He caught a stick and pulled out his pocketknife to carve “Help” in it.Then he tied a rope to it so the people would know it wasnt just any stick.He tried flying it over the falls,but it floated away in the wrong direction.Then he spotted his green water bottle.
6、David grabbed it and carved “Help!” on it.Sara also reminded him that he had a pen and paper,which shed brought to play games with,in his backpack.David knew it was just an attempt.But he wrote down “61519 We are stuck here at the waterfall.Get help please” and pushed the note into the bottle.Paragr

11、uar.He was watching for kids darting out(窜出)from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.As his car passed,no children appeared.Instead,a brick hit violently into the Jaguars side door!He stepped on the brakes and backed his Jaguar back to the spot where the brick had be
12、en thrown.The angry driver then jumped out of the car,grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting,“What was that all about and who are you?Just what the heck were you doing?Thats a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money.Why did you do it?”The you
13、ng boy was apologetic.“Please,mister.please.Im sorry but I didnt know what else to do,” he explained.“I threw the brick because no one else would stop.” With tears rolling down his face and off his chin,the boy pointed to a spot just around a parked car.“Its my brother,” he said.“He rolled off the s
14、idewalk and fell out of his wheelchair and I cant lift him up.” Now sobbing,the boy asked the astonished manager,“Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair?Hes hurt and hes too heavy for me.”Paragraph 1:Moved beyond words,the driver cooled his anger._Paragraph 2:The driver watched th

19、 day while walking through the woods,the old man found a cocoon(茧)He decided to take the cocoon home to watch its beautiful transformation from a little cocoon to a beautiful butterfly.A few days later,the cocoon started to move.It moved frantically!He sat and watched it struggle and struggle for se
20、veral hours.But it seemed not to make any progress.Then the old man felt sorry for the little butterfly inside,and rushed to its aid.With a pair of scissors and gently,he cut a little opening in the cocoon so the butterfly could come out.And then the butterfly came out of its cocoon.It had a swollen
21、 body and small,fragile wings,but it never was able to fly.He was quite puzzled.Had he accidentally killed the little butterfly?No,it was still moving a little bit.Maybe it was sick.Then he decided that the best thing he could do for the butterfly was to place it gently back into its cocoon.He did s
22、o,and placed a drop of honey on it to seal the cocoon,leaving the butterfly to nestle(处在)in its natural state.The next day he noticed that the cocoon was moving again.It struggled and struggled.Finally the butterfly broke free from its cocoon and stretched its wings out.Its beautiful wings were fill
23、ed with wonderful colors!It took off!It was flying!The wonderful butterfly flew and flew till it was almost out of the old mans sight.“What a joy,” he exclaimed!But then he started to think: what did I do wrong by trying to help that beautiful little butterfly out at first?Paragraph 1:Finally the an

29、d plenty of patience.Patience and hard work.Thats the way to succeed.”He took off the watch and wound it.“It was given me for fifty years of faithful service with my firm,” he said proudly.Finally,he handed me the watch due to the progress in school.I held it,feeling its weight.As I was leaving him,
30、he said,“And youll not forget what I told you?” I was suddenly very moved.“No,Granddad,” I promised,“Ill not.”Arriving home,my mother was to hold it in trust until she considered me old enough to look after it,but I protested so strongly that she finally agreed to hang it where I could always see it
31、.The summer ended and it was time for me to enter the new school.I never made friends easily there.One boy,Crawley,was a welltodo fellow whose way of impressing us was to show off his possessions.His bicycle was new;his boots were of the best hide;everything,in fact,was better than oursuntil he brou
