2、COURSE DESCRIPTION:Biology 2402Anatomy and Physiology IIA continuation of the principles of structure and function of the human body.Credit: 4 semester hoursPREREQUISITES:Biology 2401 or Approval of Division ChairmanCORE COURSE: This is a Core Course in the 42-Hour Core of Blinn C

3、ollege. As such,students will develop proficiency in the appropriate Intellectual Competencies, ExemplaryEducational Objectives, and /corecurriculumCOURSE OBJECTIVES AND STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:Lecture Outcomes:1. Use correct anatomical and physiological terms to describe

4、the human body.2. List and describe anatomical components of the cardiovascular system andexplain their role in transport and hemodynamics.3. List and describe anatomical components of the respiratory system and their functions.4. List and describe anatomical components of the digestive system and t

5、heirfunctional roles.5. List and describe anatomical components of the lymphatic system and explaintheir functions and role in immunity.6. List and describe anatomical components of the urinary system and explainthe physiology of the urinary system.7. List and describe anatomical components of the r

6、eproductive system and explaintheir functions.8. List and describe the histology, anatomy, and physiology of the endocrine system.Laboratory Objectives:1. Demonstrate familiarity with fundamentals of laboratory safety.2. Given the appropriate materials, models, charts, and equipment for“ wet ” lab l

7、ab experiments, thestudent will perform various lab experiments.3. Using selected organisms, the student will systemically dissect, view, and learnfeatures of the appropriate organ system. The systems to be emphasized include:cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and endocri

8、nesystems.General Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes:Following lecture, class discussion, and lab work covering appropriatelyselected material, the student will correctly answer at least 60% of thequestions on three (3) major exams and a comprehensive final exam.Following lecture, class

9、 discussion, and lab work covering appropriatelyselected material, the student will correctly answer at least 60% of thequestions on 69 quizzes or minor exams. The dates for these quizzes orminor exams will be announced in class.Students should demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge ofth

10、e laboratory equipment used in the laboratory.When given the appropriate materials and equipment, the student willperform various lab experiments to the satisfaction of the instructor.After completing the appropriate laboratory assignments, the student willcorrectly answer at least 60% of the questi

11、ons on lab practical exams.When presented with an embalmed cat, each pair of lab partners willsystematically dissect and view the appropriate organ system to satisfaction ofthe instructor.Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding and workingknowledge of the rules of safety in the class

12、room and laboratory, and theM.S.D.S. (Note: MSDS Sheets Material Safety Data Sheets are availableinroom C-7. Students will not be assessed absences when theyare representing Blinn College at an approved school f

Remember that makeup- on a “ wet ” lab is difficult.If you stop attending class,you must complete a class withdrawal form,complete the form, obtain the instructor s signature, and return th

27、e form to theadmissions office no later that August 1, 2005.Class days missed due to inclement weather will be made up as appropriate.A student on scholastic or disciplinary probation should not haveany unexcused absences!Tardy Policy: Class begins when the instructor closes the door to the lab.You

28、are expected to be in your seats at that time. Three tardies willconstitute one absence.ASSIGNMENTS:Students are expected to have read both lecture and lab assignmentsprior to class.You should read, study, comprehend, and learn the information in yourclass notes. It is very important for you to take

29、 comprehensive notesduring lecture, and to learn the information in these notes before your return toclass.Laboratory work, including slides, dissections, and exercises in the labmanual will be assigned during class. Much of the work you do will be doneduring lab time. However, any work not complete

30、d during the lab period can becompleted on you own time. Lab experiments will generally be done in groupsof 2 or more students. These “ wet ”labs will involve assembling equipment,making careful observation, recording data, and drawing conclusions about theresults. It is very important to be present

31、 when experiments are performed. Itmay not be possible to makeup- a “ wet ” lab.EXAMS:Three (3) major exams and a comprehensive final exam will be administeredduring this term. These exams will cover information covered in the lectures. Examsmay consist of multiple choice, K type (multiple multiple

32、choice), matching,diagrams, fill-in-the-blank, true false, short answer and/or essay questions.LAB PRACTICALS:There will be three (3) lab practicals during the summer term,that work cover material covered in the lab exercises.QUIZZES : There will be approximately 6 9 quizzes given during this term.

33、Dates forthe quizzes will be announced in class. Quizzes will be given at the beginning of theclass. Please arrive to class on time for the quizzes and examsIf.you miss aquiz, your grade for that quiz is zero. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.INTERNET ASSSIGNMENT (REPORT ): Each student should

34、choose a recentresearch article pertaining to Biology, Anatomy, Medicine or related topic covered inclass, from a search done on the Internet. You may refer to an Internet site dealing withBiology. Write a 5 - 10 page paper on the article and cite a minimum of four references.Two of the articles may

35、 come from an internet site. The remaining references may beobtained from scientific journals, magazines articles, and books. The report should bewritten in the MLA or CBE format. It must be in your own words. Plagiarism will not betolerated! A paper that has been plagiarized will result in a grade

36、of zero for theterm paper. The articles used as references in the term paper must be cited in thebody of the term paper. Reports should be typed, using 12 font, and double-spaced.You must obtain approval from the instructor on your topic. Reports are due on or before3:00 p.m. on July 28, 2005. A dat
