They do not change by the same percentage. Consumers substitute toward goods that become relatively cheaper. The CPI misses this subs

21、variety, allows consumers to find products that more closely meet their needs. In effect, dollars become more “valuable” when more goods are available. The government statistical agency (such as BLS) has made technical adjustments, but the CPI probably still overstates inflation by about 0.5 percent per year.This is important because in many countries, the Social Security payments and
