In an export transaction，the terms of the contract of sale provide normally whether the costs of marine insurance shall be borne by the seller or by the buyer

If the goods are sold on F.O.B. terms, these costs have to be paid by the buyer and that is even true if the F.O.B. seller，by request of the buyer，has taken out the policy on behalf of the buyer. If the goods are sold on C.I.F. terms, it is the duty of the seller to take out the policy and pay the

13、 costs of insurance. When the goods are sold on C.I.F. basis，the seller is under obligation to present a marine insurance policy or an insurance certificate at the time of negotiation. And the risks covered under the policy should be strictly in accordance with the terms of the contract，or with thos

15、e of commodity insured，the amount insured，the name of the carrying vessel，the risks covered，the period of covering and any exceptions there may be. It is also a written contract of insurance between the insurance company and the insured. Insurance certificate is a simplified insurance policy. It has

16、 the necessary items of an insurance policy，but it doesnt set out the rights and duties of the insurer and the insured，which are still subject to the detailed clauses of a formal insurance policy.
