Help Students to understand speculative mood.T: Read the following three sentences and find out their differences.1) She travelled around the

4、 UK last year. (Declarative mood)2) If only she had travelled around the UK! (Subjunctive mood)3) She must have travelled around the UK. (Speculative mood)T asks some students to discuss the three sentences.T: We know from the first sentence that “she did travel around the UK and has some experience

5、s of UK.”, so it is a display of facts, using a declarative mood.T: We know from the second sentence that “she hasnt been to the UK and she wished she had been there.” So this sentence states an assumption, using subjunctive mood. T: We know from the third sentence, “In the speakers opinion, she has

6、 been to the UK. It has not proved a FACT, but there is great possibility that she has travelled around the UK.” So this sentence states an inference, using speculative mood. 2. Learn expressions related to speculative mood.T: When we use speculative mood, we usually include “I think, may/might/coul

9、B: Its quite likely that Alf will take the boy to visit his home planet. But what will they do once they arrive? A: Paul is a visitor, so Alf would want to introduce him to his family. When they land on Alfs home planet, Paul will walk out into the strange new world feeling excited but nervous. B: F

10、or sure! Therell be unusual buildings, trees and animals. And while Paul accepts the reality of where he is, we can introduce a new character a green space monster with three octopus legs, one enormous yellow eye and a mouth full of sharp teeth. It moves quickly towards Paul. What will happen to him

11、? A: Pauls first thought is to run away. But where? Perhaps hell try to get back into the spaceship, but he finds the door is locked. And hes surprised that the scary alien monster jumps up at Alf instead! B: Yes, and what is likely to occur later? Does Paul try to save Alf? A: Hmm, I think its quit

12、e probable that Paul will run away and look for a place to hide. After all, he has no idea how dangerous the monster is. What could possibly happen after that?B: The monster follows Paul, finds him and just as it is about to attack him, Alf comes to his rescue. A: Paul finds out that the “scary” mon

13、ster is actually Alfs lovable pet! It just wants to lick Pauls face. B: Thats a perfect twist in the tale! How is the story going to end? Adjectives such as “dark”, “black”, or “deserted” can create a mysterious atmosphere in outer space.T explains what the mood is.T: Maya Angelou said: “Ive learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget

17、how you made them feel.” Now what is mood? It is what readers feel. It affects them psychologically and emotionally. 19、t writing techniquesT: Lets learn about the techniques of creating plots, which you need to write your story.T: The core of any story is the plot. To create and outline the plot, you can ask these questions: What is the conflict? How does the conflict affect the characters? What is the climax? How d

20、o the main characters solve the conflict? What is the ending?T explains what conflict is and what climax is.T: To create the plot of a story, wed better ask ourselves the above five questions. You may be confused about what conflict is and what climax is.T: We all know that conflict is needed to kee

21、p viewers engaged, to create an emotional response, and to ultimately push the story forward. Without conflict in a story, the film, show, or novel, may seem a bit boring.T: The climax in a story is the point, usually near the end of the third act, where the value of the story is tested to its highe

25、 back into the spaceship, but the door was locked. The space monster moved past Paul and jumped up at Alf. The monster was giving strange growls and was attacking Alf, so Paul looked for a place to hide. He ran into a building close by, running up the stairs as fast as he could. But it was too late

26、he could hear the growling monster coming after him up the stairs. Luckily, Paul saw a big cupboard and he quickly hid inside it. Paul could hear the monsters heavy footsteps as it came into the room. Paul was shaking there was nowhere to escape. Without warning the cupboard door flew open. The mons

27、ter was getting ready to attack Paul when Alf came running into the room and grabbed the monster by the neck and shouted, “No!” Then, he held his hand out to Paul and helped him out of the cupboard and said, “Paul, Id like to introduce you to my baby pet, Fluffy!” Fluffy looked at Paul, yawned, and promptly fell asleep. Paul was still shaken up but felt relieved to know that the “scary” monster was not dangerous after all, and actually just wanted to lick his face. Alf told Pau
