The content of the lesson is Senior English for China Students Book2 Unit 2: The Olympic Games.This lesson is abo
2、ut the Olympic Games, which is a popular topic, for 2012 London Olympic Games is on the way. It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. By studying about this topic,students can learn more about the Olympic Games, and improve their reading ability. At the same time, student
3、s interests will be motivated and some reading skills can be cultivated.Knowledge and skill objective To help students to understand and master the words, phrases and sentence patterns and to know some basic information about the Olympic Games.Process and method objective To improve the students org
4、anizing and using skills of English as the second language and to understand the main idea, to scan for the needed information and to grasp the detailsEmotional, Attitude and Value objective Develop students interest of doing sports and show the spirit of the Olympic GamesTeaching Key Points The stu
5、dents use their own words to express their own ideas and how to grasp the main idea of a paragraph.Teaching Difficult Points How to use some useful words and expression and make students learn reading skills and strategies二、Analysis of StudentsAlthough the students have the basic abilities of listen
6、ing, speaking, reading, and writing, they still need many opportunities to practice what they have learned, to express their ideas, feelings, and experience and to develop their autonomous learning ability and cooperative learning ability.三、Analysis of Teaching methodsTask-basedlanguageteachingisado
7、ptedinthislesson.Thetaskistogetthestructureofthistext.Iwillaskstudentstodividethewholetextintothreepartsandtrytogetthemainideaofeachpart.BymeansofTBLT,studentsareinvolvedandengagedin thetaskandclassroomactivities,andthereforetheycanlearnmoreaboutthetext.四、Analysis of Learning methods Ssneedtodevelop
8、somereadingstrategiessuchasskimming,scanning,summarizing information,andsoon.Inthislesson,students are instructed to develop the above mentioned reading strategies. Since the reading part tells the story oftheOlympic Games, its necessary for Ss to search some bacground information about it . Besides
9、, they should get information about the Olympic Gamesandwriteacompositionabout it.Teaching Procedures(一)Step1 Lead-in “Interest is the best teacher.” Therefore, at the very beginning of the class, I should spark the students mind to focus on the centre topic “The Olympic Games”. I will encourage stu
10、dents to join a discussion on the following questions:What is your favorite sport ? What effect it brings to you?Who is your favorite athlete ?Do you know something about the traditional Olympic Games?The answers must be related to the topic. After this, the students will be eager to know something
11、about the Olympic Games. and this is the very time to naturally lead the class intostep 2.(二)Step 2 Pre-readingIn this step, I use Task-based Language Teaching method, which can give students a clear and specific purpose while skimming and scanning the context.Task 1 General ideaThe students will be
12、 asked to just glance at the title and the pictures of the passage, and then guess what they will read in the text. And theyll be divided into groups of four to have a discussion.The purpose is to inspire the students to read actively, not passively. In addition, the task is to develop the students
13、reading skill by making prediction and to encourage the students to express their thoughts in English and cooperate with each other.Task 2 Main idea of each paragraphCooperative learning can raise the students interest and create an atmosphere of achievement. Based on this theory, I will divide the
14、whole class into some groups to skim the whole text act the interview out.(三)Step 3 While-readingThe purpose of reading is to get the correct and useful information. Students should not only have a high speed of reading but also have a correct understanding of details.Its important for language lear
15、ners to learn important rules of grammar and use these rules to solve problems in reality. In the previous process of reading, the students must come across some difficult language obstacles, so its necessary for us to discuss and explain. This period of time belongs to students. They can ask any qu
16、estions they come across in the process of learning. Ill explain the questions and difficulties. The purpose of this is improving the students “questioning spirit” and dealing with the difficulties.(四)Step 4 Post-reading Language is learnt by communicating. It is my job to create an atmosphere for s
17、tudents to use the language. Here I design 2 activities1 Reading for comprehensionIll ask 2 students to interview each other just like the Greek writer and Li Yan do , and then do the exercise following the text. I think its a good way to review what they have learned.2 DiscussionDuring making discu
18、ssion, the students will deepen their understanding of the main idea of the passage.1. Did the old Olympic Games and the modern Olympic Games happen in the same country?2. What is the competition which is not for a medal?(五)Step 5 Homework1. Read the passage again until you can retell it.2. Make some sentences using the useful expressions given today .3.
