3210REVIEWEDAPPROVEDSTATEMENTOFDEMONSTRATIONWeherebycertifythattheUltrasonicExaminationProcedure(Doc.No.NDE07-03/Rev.0)hasbeendemonstratedonatestspecimenwithknowndefectstothesatisfactionoftheAuthorizedInspector(AI)accordingtoT-150ofASMECodesectionV,asrequiredbyUW-53andAppendix12ofSectionVIII,Div.1.SpecimenNo.:NDE01-1#Report NDE07-03-NDE07-03-CertifiedbyNDELevel ScopeofThisprocedureiscompiledinaccordancewiththerequirementsofCodeSectionI、SectionVandSectionⅧDivision1&2.Inaccordancewiththisprocedureapulse-echotypeofultrasonicinstrumentshallbeusedforCodeproductexamination.Singleprobe,anglebeamscanningshallbetheprincipalmethod,ifnecessary,straightbeamscanningmayalsobeused.AllscanningmethodsusedareThisprocedureisapplicableforultrasonicexaminationofbutt-welded,fullpenetratedjointinwrought(rolled,drawn,forgedorextruded)materialwiththicknessequaltoorgreaterthan5/16in.(8mm)detecting,locatingandevaluatingthereflectorsfromtheweldmetal,heataffectedzoneandbasemetaladjacenttheweld.Ultrasonicexaminationofsinglesideweldedpartialpenetratedweldsandausteniticsteelweldsarenotconsideredtobewithinthescopeofthisprocedure.Unlessotherprocedurehasbeenapprovedandacceptedthatmayspecifyparticularrequirements,ultrasonicexaminationrelatingtomethod,evaluation,anddetailedtechniqueandrequirementshallbeinaccordancewiththis nelshallbequalifiedandcertifiedinaccordancewith“WrittenPracticeforNDE nelTraining,Examination,Qualificationand basedonSNT-TC-1A(CurrentCodeAcceptedEdition&Addenda).InterpretationandevaluationofindicationshallbeperformedatleastaⅡGeneralExaminationWrittenProcedureUltrasonicexaminationshallbeperformedinaccordancewithawrittenprocedurewhichshall,asaminimum,containtherequirementlistedin1.Thewrittenprocedureshallestablishasinglevalue,orrangeofvalues,foreachrequirement.ProcedureWhenprocedurequalificationisspecified,achangeofarequirementinTable1identifiedasanessentialvariablefromthespecifiedvalue,orrangeofvalues,shallrequirere-qualificationofthewrittenprocedure.Achangeofrequirementidentifiedasanonessentialvariablefromthespecifiedvalue,orrangeofvalues,doesn’trequirere-qualificationofthewrittenprocedure.Allchangesofessentialofnonessentialvariablesfromthevalue,orrangeofvalues,specifiedbythewrittenprocedureshallrequirerevisionof,oranaddendumto,thewrittenprocedure.Table1RequirementofAnUltrasonicExamination【】Weldconfigurationstobeexamined,includingthicknessdimensionsandbasematerialform(pipe,plate,●【】nelqualification○【】 umcalibratedscreenpoint(s)).TheprocedureforevaluatingscreenheightlinearityisprovidedinAppendixⅠofASMECodeSect.VSub.AArticle4andshallbeperformedatthebeginningofeachperiodofextendeduse(orevery3months,whicheverisless).AmplitudeControlTheultrasonicinstrumentshallutilizeanamplitudecontrolaccurateoveritsusefulrangeto±20%ofthenominalamplituderatio,toallowmeasurementofindicationsthelinearrangeoftheverticaldisplayonthescreen.TheprocedureforevaluatingamplitudecontrollinearityisgiveninASMESectV.Art.4.AppendixⅡandshallbeperformedatthebeginningofeachperiodofextendeduse(orevery3months,whicheverisless).CheckingandCalibrationofTheproperfunctioningoftheexaminationequipmentshallbecheckedandtheequipmentshallbecalibratedbytheuseofthecalibrationstandardatthebeginningandendofeachexamination。Whenexamination nelarechanged,andatanytimethatmalfunctioningisedasaminimum.Ifduringanycheckitisdeterminedthatthetestingequipmentisnotfunctioningproperly,theentireproductthathasbeentestedsincethelastvalidequipmentcalibrationshallbereexamined.BasicCalibrationBlockConfiguration(FigThebasiccalibrationreflectorsshallbeusedtoestablishaprimaryreferenceresponseoftheequipment.Thebasiccalibrationreflectorsmaybelocatedeitherinthecomponentmaterialorinabasiccalibrationblock.(SeeTable5)

umnotchdepthshallbe2.2%Tplusthethicknessofcladding,ifpresent.BasicCalibrationBlockBlockMaterialThematerialfromwhichtheblockisfabricatedshallbeofthesameproductform,andmaterialspecificationorequivalentP-Numbergrouasoneofthematerialsbeingexamined.Forcalibrationblocksfordissimilarmetalwelds,thematerialselectionshallbebasedonthematerialonthesideoftheweldfromwhichtheexaminationwillbeconducted:iftheexaminationwillbeconductedfrombothsides,calibrationreflectorsshallbeprovidedinbothmaterials.Wheretwoormorebasematerialthicknessisinvolved,thecalibrationblockthicknessshallbedeterminedbytheaveragethicknessoftheWherethecomponentmaterialisclad,theblockshallbecladbythesameweldingprocedureastheproductionpart.Wheretheautomaticmethodisimpractical,depositionofcladshallbebythemanualmethod.Itisdesirabletohavecomponentmaterialsthathavebeencladbeforethedropoutsorprolongationsareremoved.HeatTreatment.Thecalibrationblockshallreceiveatleasttheminimumtemperingtreatmentrequiredbythematerialspecificationforthetypeandgrade.Ifthecalibrationblockcontainsweldsotherthancladding,andthecomponentweldatthetimeoftheexaminationhasbeenheattreated,theblockshallreceivethesameheattreatment.SurfaceFinish.Thefinishonthesurfacesoftheblockshallberepresentativeofthesurfacefinishesonthecomponent.BlockQuality.Thecalibrationblockmaterialshallbecompleyexaminedwithastraightbeamsearchunit.Areasthatcontainanindicationexceedingtheremainingbackreflectionshallbeexcludedfromthebeampathsrequiredtoreachthevariouscalibrationreflectors.CalibrationBasicCalibrationThecalibrationreflectorsarespecifiedinWeldsinMaterialswithDiameters20in.(500mm)andless.Thebasiccalibrationblockshallbecurvedformaterialswithdiameters20in.(500mm)andless.Exceptwhereotherwisestatedinthisprocedureasinglecurvedbasiccalibrationblockmaybeusedtocalibratetheexaminationonsurfacesintherangeofcurvaturefrom0.9to1.5timesthebasiccalibrationblockdiameter.AngleBeamAsapplicable,thecalibrationshallprovidethefollowingDistancerangeDistance-amplitudecorrectionEchoamplitudemeasurementfromthetransversedrilledholeinthebasiccalibrationblock.StraightBeamThecalibrationshallprovidethefollowingDistancerangedistance-amplitudecorrectionCalibrationshallbeperformedpriortouseofthesysteminthethicknessrangeunderexamination.DistanceRangeIfapointontheDACcurvehasmovedonthesweeplinemorethan10%ofthesweepreadingor5%offullsweep,whicheverisgreater,correctthesweeprangecalibrationandnotethecorrectionintheexaminationrecord.Ifreflectorsarerecordedonthedatasheets,thosedatasheetsshallbevoidedandanewcalibrationshallberecorded.Allrecordedindicationssincethelastvalidcalibrationorcalibrationcheckshallbereexaminedwiththecorrectedcalibrationandtheirvaluesshallbechangedonthedatasheets.SensitivityIfapointonthedistance-amplitudecorrection(DAC)curvehasdecreased20%or2dBofitsamplitude,alldatesheetssincethelastcalibrationorcalibrationcheckshallbemarkedvoid.Anareacoveredbythevoideddatashallbereexamined.Ifanypointofthedistanceamplitudecorrection(DAC)curvehasincreasedmorethan20%or2dBofitsamplitude,allrecordedindicationssincethelastvalidcalibrationorcalibrationcheckshallbereexaminedwiththecorrectedcalibrationandtheirvaluesshallbechangedonthedatasheets.SurfaceBaseThebasemetaloneachsideoftheweldshallbefreeofweldspatter,surfaceirregularities,orforeignmatterthatmightinterferewiththeexamination.Wheretheweldsurfaceinterfereswiththeexamination,theweldshallbepreparedasneededtopermitexamination.ThecouplingusedinUTexaminationshouldbeassameasthatusedincalibration.TheNo.20motoroilorglycerinorpaste(C.M.C)shallmendedtoScanningAngleBeamScanningforReflectorsOrientedParalleltotheTheanglebeamshallbedirectedatapproximaterightanglestotheweldaxisfromtwodirectionsonthesamesurfacewherepossible.Thesearchunitshallbemanipulatedsothattheultrasonicenergypassesthroughtherequiredvolumesofweldandadjacentbasemetal.Thescanningshallbeperformedatagainsettingatleasttwotimestheprimaryreferencelevel.Evaluationshallbeperformedwithrespecttotheprimaryreferencelevel.ScanningforReflectorsOrientedTransversetoTheanglebeamshallbedirectedessentiallyparalleltotheweldaxis.ThesearchunitshallbemanipulatedsothattheanglebeampassesthroughtherequiredvolumesofweldandadjacentbasemetalspecifiedbythereferencingCodeSection.Thescanningshallbeperformedatagainsettingatleasttwotimestheprimaryreferencelevel.Evaluationshallbeperformedwithrespecttotheprimaryreferencelevel.Thesearchunitshallberotated180deg.andtheexaminationrepeated.StraightBeamThescanningoftheadjacentbasemetalshallbeperformedtodetectreflectorsthatmightaffectinterpretationofanglebeamresults,andisnottobeusedasacceptance-rejectionexamination.Locationsandareasofsuchreflectorsshallberecorded.7.3.3Theweldandbasemetalshallbescanned,whererequiredbythereferencingCodeSectiontotheextentpossiblewiththestraightbeamsearchunit.Thescanningshallbeperformedatagainsettingofatleasttwotimestheprimaryreferencelevel.ExaminationUsingForexaminationusingadistanceamplitudecorrectioncurve(DAC),allindicationsgreaterthan20%ofthereferencelevelshallbeinvestigatedtotheextentthattheycanbeevaluatedintermsoftheacceptancecriteriaofASMESect.VIII,Div.1.Appendix12.EvaluationofPlanerRecordinganglebeamexaminationdataforplanerreflectors,refertoASMESec.v,Article4Appx.H.TheLengthoftheReflectorShallBeMeasuredBy20%DACDiscriminationofGeometricFromFlawCategoryandCauseofGeometricNotallultrasonicreflectorsindicatesflaw,sincecertainmetallurgicaldiscontinuitiesandgeometricconditionmayproduceindicationsthatarenotrelevant.Includedinthiscategoryareplatesegregatesinheat-affected ereflectiveafterfabrication.Understraightbeamexamination,thesemayappearasspotorlineindications.Underanglebeamexamination,indicationsthataredeterminedtooriginatefromsurfaceconditions(suchasweldrootgeometry)orvariationsinmetallurgicalstructureinausteniticmaterial(suchastheautomatic-tomanualweldcladinterface)maybeclassifiedasgeometricindications.MethodforDiscriminatingGeometricFlawTheidentity, umamplitude,location,andextentofreflectorcausingageometricindicationshallberecorded.[Forexample:internalatta ent,200%DAC,1in.(25mm)aboveweldcenterline,ontheinsidesurface,from90degreeto95degree.]Thefollowingstepsshallbetakentoclassifyanindicationasgeometric:Interprettheareacontainingthereflectorinaccordancewiththeapplicableexaminationprocedure.Plotandverifythereflectorcoordinates.Prepareacross-sectionalsketchshowingthereflectorpositionandsurfacediscontinuitiessuchasrootandcounterbore.(c)Reviewfabricationorweldpreparationdrawings.Otherultrasonictechniquesornondestructiveexaminationmethodsmaybehelpfulindeterminingareflector’strueposition,sizeandorientation.AcceptanceForASMEAllimperfectionsthatproduceanindicationgreaterthan20%ofthereferencelevelshallbeinvestigatedtotheextentthattheoperatorcandeterminetheshape,identity,andlocationofallsuchimperfectionsandevaluatethemintermsoftheacceptancestandardsgivenin(a)and(b)below.Indicationscharacterizedascracks,lackoffusion,or penetrationisunacceptableregardlessoflength.ThicknessUltrasonicIndicatedOtherimperfectionsareunacceptableiftheindicationsexceedthereferencelevelamplitudeandhavethelengthswhichexceedThicknessUltrasonicIndicated6Wheretisthethicknessoftheweldexcludinganyallowablereinforcement.Forabuttweldhavingdifferentthicknessattheweld,tisthethinnerofthesetwothicknesses.Ifafullpenetrationweldincludesafilletweld,thethicknessofthethroatofthefilletshallbeincludedint.ForASMEAllimperfectionsthatproduceamplitudegreaterthan20%ofthereferencelevelshallbeinvestigatedtotheextentthattheoperatorcandeterminetheshape,identity,andlocationofallsuchimperfectionsandevaluatethemintermsoftheacceptancestandardsgivenin(a)and(b)below.Imperfectionsthatareinterpretedtobecracks,lackoffusion,or penetrationareunacceptableregardlessoflength.Allotherlineartypeimperfectionsareunacceptableiftheamplitudeexceedsthereferencelevelandthelengthoftheimperfectionexceedsthe1⁄4in.(6mm)fortupto3⁄4in.(191⁄3tfortfrom3⁄4in.(19mm)to21⁄4in.(573⁄4in.(19mm)fortover21⁄4in.(57Wheretisthethicknessoftheweld,excludinganyallowablereinforcement.Forabuttweldjoiningtwomembershavingdifferentthicknessesattheweld,tisthethinnerofthesetwothicknesses.Ifafullpenetrationweldincludesafilletweld,thethicknessofthe
