Inadditiontomyhelpingoutinmyfather’sbusiness，Ihavehadnumerousotherworkexperiencesthatfurtherenhancemyqualificationsforthisprogram.MyresumeenumeratesthevariouspositionsIhaveheldatKerasotesTheaters，Chili’srestaurants，andIndianaUniversity’snewStudentRecreationalSportsCenter（SRSC），andwhatallofthesepositionshaveincommonisanemphasisonservingthepubliceffectively.Further，asanassistantmanagerattheShowplace11andastaffcoordinatorattheSRSC，Ihavegainedvaluableexpertiseinmanagingemployeesandcreatingworkschedules.Bothofthesepositionshaveallowedmetodevelopmysalesandpeopleskills，whichareextremelyimportantinanincreasinglyservice-drivenmarketplace.

Notallofmyworkexperiencehasbeenasapaidemployee.PartofmyvolunteeringexperienceatMiddlewayHouse，thelocalbatteredwomen’sshelter，involvedextensiveworkoncomputers，includingwordprocessing，organizingdatabasesandcreatingspreadsheets.Also，IrecentlyparticipatedinaninternshipprogramforacademiccreditwiththeEliLillycorporationinthepersonneldivision.Asamanagementintern，IwasabletowatchtheworkingsofamajorcorporationupcloseandwouldliketheopportunitytocombinemyexperienceswiththetheoreticalbackgroundavailableintheMBAprogramatIUB，withitsemphasisoncomputers，marketingandhumanresources.

MysuccessfulinternshipisoneelementofmyoverallacademicsuccessasanundergraduatehereatIUB，yetIhavealsomadetimeforavarietyofextracurricularactivities，includingworkingformysororityandcompetinginintramuralbasketball.MypositiveexperiencesherehaveresultedinmydesiretostayinBloomingtontocontinuemyacademicendeavors；furthermore，continuingmyeducationherewouldallowmetomakeimportantbusinesscontacts，withthecareergoalofopeningmyowncomputerconsultingfirmintheMidwest.

Ireadacatholicrangeofliterature.IparticularlyenjoyRomanticpoetry，asIfindittobeanintriguingexampleofhowliteraturecanbeusedtomakeastandagainstsociety’sestablishedcodes，aspoetsrebelledagainstpreviousliterarytraditionsand，contrarytothedoctrinesofneo-classicalliterature，focusedonemotionsandontheindividual.Anotherexampleofsucharebellion，andanotherareaoffascinationtome，isthedystopiannovelofthetwentiethcentury.MyfavouriteexamplesincludeOrwell’s‘1984′and‘AnimalFarm’，Golding’s‘LordoftheFlies’，Bradbury’s‘Fahrenheit451′andHuxley’s‘BraveNewWorld’.Manyofthesegreatworkswereinspiredby，andreactedagainst，theriseofpoliticalextremistsduringthefirsthalfofthecentury.Theseworksarealsooftenhighlysatirical，astylewhichIadmireandwhichhasleadmetoreadworkssuchasPope’s‘TheRapeoftheLock’，Heller’s‘Catch-22′andBenElton’scynicallysatiricalplays.IalsoappreciatethenovelsofJaneAusten，especiallythewittyGothicsatire‘NorthangerAbbey’.

Iseeliteratureasbothacauseandaneffectofhistory，andsoIstudyhistoryinordertofullyappreciatethecontextofapieceofwriting.Ifinditfascinatinghowone’sknowledgeofahistoricalperiodcanalterone’sinterpretationofatext.Also，Ibelievethatthestudyofartcancontributetoone’sunderstandingofliterarybackground，forexampleinthewaythatBlake’spaintingscangiveaninsightintohismind，andthushispoetry.Ifindthatmystudyofmathsisusefulasitcontributestomylogicalandanalyticalskills，whicharevitalforthecriticalappraisalofliterature.

Attheendofyear12Iattendedaten-dayresidentialcourseatEtonCollegetostudyEnglishliterature.Thecoursewasdesignedtobeofthesameintensity，andofasimilarlevel，touniversitystudies.Theseweretenofthebestdaysofmylife，andmademerealisethatanEnglishcourseatuniversitywouldbeperfectforme，andthatIwouldbeperfectforit.Thiscoursealsoallowedmetorefinemyinterestsinthesubject，andtolookindetailatareashithertountouched-uponinmystateschooleducation.

Ihavecompletedaworkexperienceplacementatalocalarchitects’office，whichIfeeltaughtmemanylife-skills.SeeingtheenthusiasmofthepeopleIworkedwithshowedmethatitisimportanttopursueacareerinasubjectyoulove.Therefore，althoughIdonothaveadefiniteideaofwhereIwishtoworkinthefuture，IwouldliketofindemploymentinanareadirectlyrelatedtoEnglish，suchasinpublishingorjourn
