Foraworkteamoranorganization,effectiveleaderplaysanextremelyimportantrolebecauseeffectiveleadercanleadateamoranorganizationtoaccomplishsomerelevantjobeffectivelyandtherebyincreasingteamworkingperformanceandachievingpositiveorganizationalperformance.However,tobeasuccessfulleaderisnotveryeasy.Normally,asuccessfulleaderoftenmustprocesssomeessentialelementssuchasgoodcommunicationabilityandeffectivemotivationalskillsandsoon.Forthis,itisvitalforindividualstopaymoreattentiontodevelopsomeessentialelementsofeffectiveleadershipinordertomakethemselvestobesuccessfulleadersinateam.

3.0Keyelementsofeffectiveleadership

Effectiveleadershipisvitalforanyorganizationsbecauseitcouldhelpanorganizationtoreachfurtherdevelopmentandsuccess.Normally,inordertobecomeasuccessfulleader,someessentialelementsshouldbemet.Forthis,thissectionisgoingtodiscusssomekeyelementsofeffectiveleadershipbyusingtraittheoryofleadership

Traittheoryofleadershipisatypicaltheoreticalmodelthatiswidelyusedtoillustratesomeessentialcharacteristicsofleaders(Derueetal,2011).Accordingtothetraittheoryofleadership,theessentialelementofeffectiveleadershipcouldbeembodiedinthefollowingaspects(Colbertetal,2014).Thefirstelementisachievementdrive.Normally,successfulleadersalwayswillhavehigherambitionandinitiativetoachievehigherachievement(Colbertetal,2014).Underthiscondition,successfullyleaderswilltrytheirbesttoperformrelevantjobtaskswithhigherperformanceinordertoachievetheirexpectationforachievement.TakeSteveJobsasanexample,hecreatedAppleComputer,Incin1976,andachievedhugesuccessinthefollowingyears.However,SteveJobsdidnotcontentwiththestatusquo.Hehashigherambitiontoachievemorehigherachievement.Drivenbyhisdesireforhigherachievement,heledAppleInctoinnovativecontinuously.Dependingonhisefforts,AppleInceventuallybecomethelargestinformationtechnologyfirmaroundtheworld.Undoubtedly,SteveJobswassosuccessfullybecausehehashigherachievementdrive.Thus,achievementdriveisoneofthekeyelementsofeffectiveleadership.

Thesecondelementofeffectiveleadershipisleadershipmotivation,whichdescribesthataleaderhavestrongdesiretoleadtheirfellowemployeestoachieveexpectedgoals.Itissuggestedthatasuccessfulleaderoftenleadhisorherfellowemployeestoworkhardinordertoachieveexpectedgoals(Strang&Kuhnert,2009).TakeAngelaAhrendtswhoisCEOofBurberryasanexample,intheworkplace,healwaysworkswithitsfellowemployeestogether.Intheworkplace,heoftenwillprovideeffectiveguidanceandinstructionstofellowworkerstoaccomplishjobtasks.Dependingonhiseffectiveleadershipmotivation,hehassuccessfulledhisworkteamtoachieveoutstandingachievementsandhasratedasasuccessfulleader.Fromthispointofview,itcanbefoundthatasuccessfulleadershouldhaspowerfulleadershipmotivation.

Thethirdelementofeffectiveleadershipishonestyandintegrity.Asuccessfulleaderalwayscancrateinspiringorganizationalculturetoincreaseteamcohesivenessbasedonhonestyandintegrity.Normally,excellentleadersaretrustworthyandreliable(Josephetal,2015).Intheworkplace,theirfellowemployeesoftenwillconsiderthattheirleaderstellthetruthandproviderightguidanceforthemtoperformrelevantjobtaskswithhigherperformance.Inthiscase,thefellowemployeesoftenwillbelievethemandfollowtheirleadbecausetheirleadersareleadingthemtodorightthings.Asaresult,theteamcohesivenesswillbeincreasedsignificantly,andthusleadingtotheachievementofexpectedgoals.Inturn,ifaleaderengagesinsomebehaviorswithouthonestyandintegrity,theleaderswillnotbetrustedbyhisorhersubordinates(Bauman,2013).Asaresult,theleaderwillfailinleadingtheworkteamtocompletejobtasksmoothlyandtoachieveexpectedgoalsasthesubordinatesnolongerbelievetheleader.

Takemypreviousexperienceasanexample,Iworkedwithothersclassmatestocompleteagroupassignment.Toensurethegroupassignmenttobecompletedsmoothly,wehasselectedateammemberasgroupleadertoleadothermemberstoperformrelevantjobtasks.Beforewecarryoutourgroupassignment,ourleaderneedtoberesponsiblefordevelopingspecificactionplanandjobsallocation.Hetoldallmembersthathewillcompletetheactionplanandjobarrangementafterthreedays.Butthreedayslaterweholdagroupmeetingtodiscussrelevantjobdetails.But,unfortunately,ourleaderhiddenthefactthathedidnotdevelopthedetailactionplanandjobarrangement.Hetoldallgroupmembersthatheforgottobringthedetailactionplanandjobarrangementforthemeeting.Hesaidthathewillsendthedetailactionplanandjobarrangementtoothermembers,emailaccounowevextweacjidHreceivedanyemailfromourleaderaboutthedetailactionplanandjobarrangement.Consequently,weapproachedhimdirectlyintheclassroomforthepurposeofobtainingthedetailactionplanandjobarrangement.But,unfortunately,hetoldusthathedidnotcomplete.Afterthen,allmembersnolongerbelievedinhim,anddecidedtochangegroupleader.Undoubtedly,ourgroupleadisanunsuccessfulleaderashewastrustworthyandreliable.Thus,asuccessfulleaderalsoshouldprocessthetraitofhonestyandintegrity.

Thefourthelementofeffectiveleadershipisself-confidence.Normally,successfulleadersoftenareconfidentofthemselves.Intheworkplace,successfulleadersalwaysareveryconfidentthattheyhaveabilitytoleadateamtoperformrelevantjobtasksmoothlyandtoachieveexpectedgoals(Girdauskiene&Eyvazzade,2015).Theirconfidencealsowillinfluencetheirfellowworkerstoworkhardbecausetheirconfidencewillformahugeforcetoencouragethefellowemployeestoaccomplishrelevantjobssoastoreachexpectedgoal.Additionally,theyalsoarenotafraidoffailurebecausetheyareconfidentthattheywillachievesuccessthroughtheireffortsnomatterhowmanydifficultiesfacedbythem.Duetotheirconfidences,thesuccessfulleadersalwayscanleadateamtoovercomedifficultiesandthenachievesuccess.

TakeSteveJobsandSteveWozniak,thefoundersofApplecompany,asexamples,theycreatedAppleCompanyin1976.Althoughtheyledthecompanytoachievesuccessatthebeginning.However,duringthelateryears,theyfacedthedangerofinvestmentfailureduetotheshortagesoffunds.Manypeerscommentedthatthisnewsettingupcompanywillgooutofbusiness.Infaceofsuchawfulmoment,SteveJobsandSteveWozniakdidnotgiveuptheirideatoproducepersonalcomputers.Theybelievedthattheyhaveabilitytoaddressthedifficultyfacedbythem,andwereconfidentthattheirbusinesswillsucceedinthenearfuture.Forthis,theyactivelysoughtforinvestorstoinvesttheircompany.Throughtheirtirelesseffortsandtheirself-confidences,theyobtainedthefundinvestmentfrommultimillionaireMikeMarkkula.Asaresult,SteveJobsandSteveWozniaksuccessfullyaddressedthedifficultyfacedbythemandledtheircompanytoachievegloriousachievements.Untilnow,Applecompanyhasbecomethelargestinformationtechnologycompanyworldwide.Undoubtedly,SteveJobsandSteveWozniakweresosuccessfulthankstotheirconfidence.Basedonthisperspective,itcanbefoundthatself-confidencealsoisakeyelementofeffectiveleadership.

Thefinalelementofeffectiveleadershipiscognitiveability.AccordingtoWai&Rindermann(2015),cognitiveabilityisanindividual,sabilitytomakerightjudgmentonrealsituationandtothinkandreasoninordertoseekforthebestsolutionortogenerateideastorespondtotherealsituation.Normally,asuccessfulleaderoftenownsgoodabilitytomakinggoodjudgmentandhavestronganalysisabilitytoperformrelevantideas(Imboden,2014).Forleaders,theyoftenwillfacemanyopportunitiesandthreatswhentheyleadateamtoachieveorganizationalgoals.Forthis,whetherleadercaneffectivelyjudgetheopportunitiesandthreatsfacedbythemdirectlydeterminetheeffectivenessoftheirleadership.Inmanycase,successfulleadersoftencanmakerightjudgmentsaccordingtorealsituationsandthenmakerightdecisionstorespondtotherealsituations.Dependingoneffectivecognitiveability,aleadercanleadworkteamtoachievesuccess.Inturn,ifaleaderhasnotgoodcognitiveability,theleaderoftencannotmakerightjudgmentandstrategiesdecision,letaloneleadingworkteamtoachievesuccess.Forthis,cognitiveabilityalsoisakeyelementthatdeterminestheeffectivenessofleadership.

TakeJackMa,thefounderofAlibabaGroupHoldingLimited,asanexample,herealizedthatonlineshoppingwillbecomeanewconsumptiontrendinChinaasinternetrapiddevelopsandiswidelyusedbypeople.Hejudgedthatonlineshoppingwillbringagoodbusinessopportunitytodevelophisbusiness.Bymakingthisjudgment,JackMabegantodevelopAlibabawebsitein1999.OnApril15,1999,Alibabawebsitewasputintonormaloperation.aftermorethantenyearsofdevelopment,JackMaledAlibabaGroupHoldingLimitedtoachievehugeinbothChinesemarketandinternationalmarkets.Toalargeextent,JackMa'ssuccessalsobenefitsfromhiscognitiveabilitybecausehemadetherightjudgmentonthedevelopmentofE-businessintoday,ssociety.Basedonthispointofview,itcanbefoundthatthegoodcognitiveabilityalsoisakeyelementofeffectiveleadership.

Normally,theelementsofeffectiveleadershiparevarious.Drawingonmypersonalexperienceofplayingateamleaderrole,effectiveleadershipalsoshouldmeetthekeyessentialelements.Thefirstelementiseffectivecommunicationisoneofthemostimportantelementofeffectiveleadership.AccordingtoIbrahim(2015),communicationisanimportantqualityofasuccessfulleader.Normally,asaleader,heorsheoftenneedtocommunicatewithothers.Underthiscondition,whetheraleadercanconducteffectivecommunicationwilldeterminetheeffectivenessofleadership(Ibrahim,2015).Takemypersonalexperienceasanexample,whenItakepartinagroupassignment.Inmygroupassignment,Iwasappointedasgroupleader.Inordertoleadmygrouptoaccomplishourassignmentsmoothly,Irealizedtheimportanceofcommunication.Forthis,Idecidedtoholdameetingperaweek.Inthemeeting,eachemployeeswererequiredtoreporttheirworkprogressandtellsomeproblemsfacedbythemwhentheyperformtheirperspectivejobs.Basedontheproblemsidentified,Iorganizedmyteammemberstoconductrelevantdiscussioninordertofindoutthebestsolutiontoaddresstheproblemsfacedbyus.Througheffectivecommunication,eachmemberscansharetheirideawithothers.Additionally,theeffectivecommunicationbetweenteammembersalsohelpstoaddressallkindsofproblemsfacedbyus.Duetoeffectivecommunication,Ieventuallyledmygrouptocompletethegroupassignmentsmoothly.Therefore,effectivecommunicationisessentialforeffectiveleadership.

Anotherelementisemployeemotivationandempower.Inateam,leaderplaysanimportantroleinencouragingsubordinateemployeestoworkhardinordertoachieveexpectedgoal.Toreachthis,leadershouldconducteffectiveemployeemotivationandempower.Undoubtedly,anyindividualhasgoalsandexpectationsinteam.Underthiscondition,successfulleaderalsowillenlargeemployeeempowerandconductemployeemotivationinordertohelpthemtoachievetheirgoalbyperformingrelevantjobtaskwithhigherperformance.Throughemployeemotivationandempower,leadercanincreaseemployees,satisfactiontowardstjob,andthencouldeffectivelyencouragethemtotheirbesttoaccomplishtheirjobtasks.

Thus,employeemotivationandempowerisimportantelementofeffectiveleadership.
