D User ctioninThissectiondefinestheparametersthattheusermustcodeinordertoexportaVISSIMnetworkintotoSynchro™anddescribeshowthesevariablesareusedintheexportprocess.D InVISSIM,OpenyourVISSIMOn Bar,selectFile/Export.ThefollowingdialogboxshouldbeSelectaVolumeCalculationtype,FullSimulation,Designvolumes–simulationwithoutcontrolsorDesignvolumes–staticroutevolumes.SelectthePathtoexportto,thedesiredfolderwhereUTDFfileswillbecreatedbyselectingthe…button.InNodeSelection,selecttheVISSIMnodestobeexported.Theusermayselect/deselectallofthenodesorindividualnodestoexport.Itis mendedthattheuserselectallofthenodestoavoidroutingdecisions.NodenameswithcommasinthemwillhavethecommasrecedwithwhitespaceinthegeneratedexportUTDFfiles.DefinetheMaxNodeSearchDistance(metersorfeetdependingupontheunitssetinyourVISSIMfile).Thisisusedfordetermininghowtocalculatetheapproachdirections.DefineaTimeInterval(seconds)forsimulation.Fromanduntil;thedefaultvaluesare300to3900.Thecurrentsimulationperiod,asdefinedinSimulation/Parameters,isdisyedinthedialogasareference.However,thisperiodisnotusedinthesimulationforexport.Instead,theFromandUntilparameterswilldefinethesimulationperiodfortheexport.[Cancel]Keeporiginalparameters,anychangesareignored,closethedialog,noexportisdone.[Export]Startactualexport.Thiswillrunthesimulationforvolumeandspeeddata.YoumaybepromptedwithmessagesfromtheExportifVISSIMhasdifficultydeterminingtheproperapproachforanode,forexample:Clickingon'NoMessage'willdisablefurthermessagesduringtheexportsimulation.Allmessageswillbeloggedtotheerrorlogfilewhichwillbecedinthesamedirectoryasyourinpfilewithan.errfileextension.Forexample,ifyourVISSIMnetworkfileisC:\projects\test.inp,anerrorlogfilewiththenameC:\projects\test.errwillbegenerated.Afterthesimulationisrun,youmayreceivethefollowingmessage,indicatingthatitwasnecessarytorenumbersomeofthenodesbecauseofNodeNumberconstraintslistedinSynchro’s™ Pleaseconsulttheerrfilefornodere-numbering.Hereisanexamplelogentry:VISSIMnode 10001=>SYNCHRO™node Ifthesimulationperiodistoosmall,thenyoumaynotgeneratevolumedataNode1:volume0.0!Attheendofexport:message“Exportcomplete!”oranassociatederrorAnyerrorsorsignificantinformationgeneratedwillresultinamessagefromVISSIMtochecktheerrorlogfilefordetailedinformation.IfnounhandlederrorsoccurandtheuserhasselectedSynchro™Export,UTDFfileswillbegeneratedunderthepathspecifiedintheExportDialog.TheusermustthenupdatetheSynchro™datafiles(UTDF)inSynchro™,byngthefollowing:MakesureyouhaveselectedOptions-MetricUnits(ConverttoMetric)beforeimportingtheUTDFfiles.From Bar,selectTransfer->DataOntheUTDFDatabaseAccessDialog,selecttheLayoutClicktheSelectButtonandtraversetopathwhereyousetVISSIMtoexportto.MakesuretoselecttypeinthedialogasCSV.Selectthelayout.csvfile.Nowclickthereadbutton.ThebasicgeometryshouldnowappearinSynchro™.IfyoureceiveanErrorinSynchro™afterclickingRead,clickResume.ThecausecouldbethatthegeometryrangeisoutofscopeforuseinSynchro™.It mendedthatyouusepositiveX/YcoordinatesinyourVISSIMmodel.NowselecttheLanetabfromtheUTDFDatabaseAccessDialog.FollowthesameinstructionsasyoudidforLayout.ClickthereadButton.NowthemovementandvolumedatashouldappearinyourSynchro™model.DothesameforthePhasingandTiming.Note:Itisimportantthatyouselectthesetabsintheorderlistedhere(i.e.Layout,Lane,Phasing,Timing)YoumayneedtoadjustyourMapSettingsinSynchro™toviewtheentirenetwork(Options->MapSettings).TheMapSettingsallowyoutochangeyourbackgroundandgraphics,suchasStreetNames,Links,IntersectionsandVolumeDiagrams.Formoreinformationonthis,pleaseconsulttheSynchro™D BasicThefollowingisadescriptiononthefunctionalityoftheDetailsforcalculatingthevolumesfortheexportinVISSIM.UsercanchoosehowtocalculatethevolumesfortheexportinExportparameterdialog:Fullsimulationvolumes-Duringthesimulationrun(withcontrols)bothapproach-speedandmovement-volumesaredetermined.AsnormalsimulationinVISSIM,withallcontrolsuserhasintheVISSIMnetwork.Demandvolumes–Simulationwithoutcontrols.Duringthesimulationrun(withoutcontrols)bothapproach-speedandmovement-volumesaredetermined.Controlsignoredarepriorityrules,signalheads,stopsignsandin betweenvehicles.Allothercontrols(notlistedabove)areused:forexamplebusstops,speedzones,speeddecisions,laneclosures,routing,etc.Simulationwithoutcontrolswillbeavailablethroughacommandlineparameteraswell(infuturereleases).Designvolumes–staticroutevolumes.Volumesaretakenfromtheroutesrelativevolumes.Assumesvaluesinroutesarenotpercentages,butactualturnmovementcounts.Duringthesimulationrun(withoutcontrols)onlytheapproach-speedisdetermined,nomovement-volumescounted.Note:theVISSIMedges(yellowbars)correspondingtoamovementmustbecompleyinsidetheroute.IftheroutestartcrosssectionisONtheedge,themovementcorrespondingtotheedgedoesnotgetthevolume.Thesameappliesfortheendcrosssectionoftheroute:iftheendcrosssectionisONtheedge,correspondingmovementisnotconsideredtobeontherouteanddoesnotgetthevolume.Ifnostaticroutesexist:error,theexportexitswithamessagethatitcannotexportthisnetwork.Simulationruns-TheSimulationrunisstartedautomaticallyaspartoftheexportprocess,userwillnotstartsimulationwiththenormalVISSIMbuttons.Usercannotchangebetweensinglestepandcontinuousduringthesimulationrun.UsercaninterruptthesimulationrunwiththeESCAPEkey,thismeansthatallvolumesexportedwillbezeroandallspeedsexportedwillbezero.GenerallyVISSIMautomaticallyturnsoffanyoptionsthatslowdownthesimulation:turnsofftheanimationand3Ddisy,turnsoffanyevaluations.Simulationrunsonumspeedbutwillusestepsselected.Thesimulationperiodissetaccordingtoexportparametertimeinterval.IftherearenovolumesforanexportedVISSIMnode,thendetailedmessagesarewrittenintotheerrorfile.Generallythereisasinglealertboxafter/duringsimulationthaterrorsoccurredandreferencealogfilewherethelogentriescanbeviewed.Whateverisdonefor/duringthesesimulationruns,theoriginalVISSIMdataisnotchangedinanyway.Volumesandspeeds.UsersarenotrequiredtosetupanyVISSIMevaluationsthemselves(manually,outsidetheexport)withtheexceptionofnodepolygons.InordertocountthevolumesVISSIMusesthenodeevaluation.VISSIMinternallysetstheexportednodesactiveforthenodeevaluation.Thesameistruewiththespeed:userdoesnotneedtosetupanyevaluations.Thevolumeandspeedevaluationsareactiveaccordingtoexporttimeintervalfrom-to.Ifnovolumesarecounted(allvolumesaftersimulationarezero),onlynetworkdataisexported.Awarningiswrittenintotheerrorfile.Volumesarecalculatedduringthesimulationwiththenodeevaluation.Nodeevaluationtimesaresetaccordingtothetimeintervalgivenintheexportparameters.D ExportTheexportcurrentlydoesnotusethecompassdirectionfromVISSIM.TheexportVISSIMmodeltosethisnorthtoVISSIMUp.Degrees:0°east,90°north,180°west,Left-handtrafficisnotsupported.Exportabortsifleft-handtrafficisApproachesaregeneratedperleg.Exitonlylegswillalsohaveanapproachbutwillnothaveanymovementsdefinedforthatapproach.VISSIMgeneratesa umofoneapproachperdirection.Thereare8possibleapproachdirections.UsersmustinsertVISSIMnodes/nodepolygonsonthosejunctionstheywanttoexport.AllrelevantturningmovementsofanodemustbeatleastpartiallyinsidetheVISSIMnodepolygon.TheedgesinsideaVISSIMnodeareusedtodeterminetheapproachesandmovements.UserisrequiredtocenodesatlanereductionsorTurningbays/pocketsneednotbecomple yinsidetheVISSIMnodeUserisnotrequiredtoinsertVISSIMnodesbetweenexportedVISSIMnodesoratthe“endpoints”ofthenetwork.VISSIMnodesarenotrequiredtoconformtodynamicassignment,itisnotnecessarytohaveclearedgesasindynamicassignmentbetweentwoexportedVISSIMnodes.VISSIMwillgeneratedummynodesifnecessary.Pedestriancrosswalksmustbe yinsidetheVISSIMpolygon.TheymustalsohaveavehicleinputandthevehicleinputtrafficcompositionmustcontainonlyvehicletypeswithcategoryPEDESTRIAN.Otherwisepedestriancrosswalkswillnotbeexported.IfoneormoresignalheadsexistinsidetheVISSIMnodepolygon,centerofthesmallestrectanglecontainingallsignalheadswillbethecenteroftheexportednode.IfnosignalheadsexistwithinthenodebutpriorityrulesAND/ORstopsignsdoexistinsidetheVISSIMnodepolygon,thecenterofthesmallestrectanglecontainingpriorityrules(bothstoplinesandmarkers)ANDstopsignswillbethecenteroftheexportedIfnosignalheads,priorityrules,orstopsignsexistinsidetheVISSIMnodepolygon,thecenterofVISSIMnodepolygonwillbethecenteroftheexportednode.D UserinctioninThissectiondefinestheparametersthattheusermustcodeinordertoexportaVISUMnetworkintotoSynchro™anddescribeshowthesevariablesareusedintheexportprocess.D Bar-File,selectExport,thenSynchro™.ThefollowingdialogwillThisdialogallowstheusertospecifytheExportParameters.TheusercanchooseaVISUMNetworkAttributetouseforvaluesthatwillbeexportedintotheUTDFfiles.ByclickingontheAttributeButtons,theusercanselectwhichVISUMNetworkAttributeValuetouseforOnthe BarFile–Export–SYNCHRO™.Thisdialogcontainsbuttons[OK],[Cancel],[Export].[OK]Keepchangedexportparameters,closethedialog,noexport[Cancel]Keeporiginalparameters,anychangesareignored,closethedialog,noexportisdone.[Export]StartactualIfnounhandlederrorsoccurandtheuserhasselectedSynchro™Export,UTDFfileswillbegeneratedunderthepathspecifiedintheExportDialog.TheusermustthenupdatetheSynchro™datafiles(UTDF)inSynchro™,byngthefollowing:MakesureyouhaveselectedOptions-MetricUnits(ConverttoMetric)beforeimportingtheUTDFfiles.From TheLanes.csvfilemusthavetheselection“Includevolumerelateddata”ToimportthefilestoVISSIM,ontheBar,selectFile/Import/Synchro™inVISSIM.Thefollowingdialogboxwillappear.SelectthedirectorylocationoftheCSVfilesandtheimportedVISSIMfilesusingthe“…”buttons.Click“Import”toimporttheSynchro™NetworkintoVISSIM.IftheSynchro™inputdataiscorrect,theimportprocesswillcreateaVISSIMfilethatisreadytorun.TheOKbuttonsimplysavesthepathsettings,butdoesnotimporttheD ImportationVolumes:VISSIMimportsthetrafficandheavyvehiclevolumesfromtheSynchro™Lanes.csvfile.VISSIMcalculatestheexternalvolumesforthenetworkfromSynchro™volumecountsandcesthemasvehicleinputs.SincevehiclesonlyenteraVISSIMnetworkfromexternallinks,internalturningvolumesmaydifferifyourSynchro™networkvolumesarenotbalanced,however,thepercentageswillbethesame.Separaterouteswillbecreatedforheavyvehicles.OnlymovementswithvolumeareimportedfromSynchro™.Anintersectionwithnovolumeatallwillstoptheimport.ThePedestrianCallsinPhasingWindowofSynchro™arereadasthePedestrianVolumesinVISSIM.IfthePedestrianphaseispresentinSynchro™,butthepedestrianvolumeiszero,theimportwillsettheVISSIMpedestrianvolumetoone.TheimportedvolumeistheGeometry:VISSIMcreatesthenetworkusingthedataprovidedinSynchro™.Currently,nomorethan4legsperintersectioncanbeimported.ToobtainthecorrectlinklengthsinVISSIM,checkthenodecoordinatesinSynchro™.ThelinklengthsinVISSIMareafactorofthenodecoordinatesandnotthelinklengthsprovidedinSynchro™.Importedstoragelengthscannotbelongerthanhalfthedistancebetweenthetwointersections.Ifthestoragelengthislonger,thelengthimportedwillbesettohalfthedistancebetweenthetwointersections.Allcontrollertypesareimportedexcept,currently,Roundabouts.Note:RoundaboutsarecurrentlyexportedtoUTDFassign-controlledintersectionswiththroughvolumesandnothroughlanes;attemptingtoimporttheseintersectionswillcausetheimporttocrash.U-turnsarenotcurrentlyTheimportusesdefaultturningspeedvaluesforleftturns,25km/h(15.53mph)andforrightturns,15km/h(9.32mph).SignalTiming:Allsignaltimingisimported;however,theoffsetinVISSIMwillalwaysreferencethestartofgreenofthecoordinatedphaseinthefirstringandthereforemaydifferinvaluefromSynchro™.AlthoughitispossibletohaveonecontrollerformultipleintersectionsinVISSIM,importingaSynchro™filewiththissetupwillcausetheimporttofail.TheintersectionsmustbeimportedasseparatecontrollersandtheneditedinVISSIMoncetheimportiscompleted.DualEntryisnotaninputparameterinSynchro™,howeveritisafeatureoftheNEMAeditor.Theimportsetsdualentryonallthroughmovements.IfthecontrollertypeisdefinedasPretimedinSynchro™,allphaseswillhavemaxrecallandvehiclerecallsetaswellaspedrecallifpedestriantimingsexistforthephase.MinimumInitialdefinestheminimumgreentimeperphase.MinimumInitialislabeledasMinGreeninthePhasing.csvfile.MinimumGapisimportedasPassageinMaxGreenisnotaSynchro™input,butitisexportedinthePhasing.datfile.Itisusedtodefinethe umgreenperphase.Itcorrespondsto umSplitminusYellowtimeandAllredtimeinthePhasingWindow.D UserinctioninTheImportwillbeavailablewithVISUM9.30.
