wascreditedwithsolvingthepollutionproblemandimprovingthequalityoflifeinPlainsville.ThisactionwouldhavegreatappealtothecitizensofLakeCity,mostofwhomparticipateinthecommunity'srecyclingprogram,andwouldguaranteeMcAllister'ssuccessinhercurrentquesttobeLakeCity'snewmayor.

AccordingtoinformationrecentlyreportedintheEliottownGazette,thenumberofpeoplewhotraveltoEliottownhasincreasedsignificantlyoverthepastseveralyears.Sofarthisyearover100,000peoplehavearrivedonflightstoEliottown'sairport,comparedwithonly80,000lastyearand40,000theyearbefore.Eliottown'strainstationhasreceivedmorethan50,000passengersthisyear,comparedwithlessthan40,000lastyearand20,000theyearbefore.ClearlytourisminEliottownhasbeenincreasing,thankstothenewCentralParkandMuseumofModemArtthatopenedlastyear.Therefore,thefundingfortheparkandmuseumshouldbeincreasedsignificantly.

WovenbasketscharacterizedbyaparticulardistinctivepatternhavepreviouslybeenfoundonlyintheimmediatevicinityoftheprehistoricvillageofPaleaandthereforewerebelievedtohavebeenuniquetothePaleanpeople.Recently,however,archaeologistsdiscoveredsucha"Palean"basketinLithos,anancientvillageacrosstheBrimRiverfromPalea.TheBrimRiverisverydeepandbroad,andsotheancientPaleanscouldonlyhavecrosseditbyboat,butthereisnoevidencethatthePaleanshadboats.AndboatscapableofcarryinggroupsofpeopleandcargowerenotdevelopeduntilthousandsofyearsafterthePaleanpeopledisappeared.Moreover,Paleanswouldhavehadnoneedtocrosstheriver—thewoodsaroundPaleaarefullofnuts,berries,andsmallgame.Itfollowsthattheso-calledPaleanbasketswerenotuniquetoPalea.

AlthoughblackbearsarecommonintheeasternCanadianprovinceofLabrador,grizzlybears—oftensimilarincolor,butmuchlarger—werebelievedtoexistonlyinthewesternprovinces.Despiteanineteenth-centuryexplorer'saccountofhavingstartledandnarrowlyescapedfromagrizzlybeardeepinthewoodsinLabrador,modemscientistsfindnophysicalevidencethatgrizzlybearshaveeverlivedinLabrador.ButrecentresearchintothelanguageandlegendsoftheInnu,apeoplewhohavelivedinLabradorforthousandsofyears,revealsthattheirlanguagehaswordsfortwodifferentkindsofbears,andtheirancientlegendsattributedifferentcharacteristicstothetwokindsofbears.Therefore,thereprobablyweregrizzlybearsinLabrador,andtheexplorer'saccountprobablyaccuratelyidentifiedthebear.
