Part1TheAnalysisoftheTeachingMaterial
Thispartconsistsof5aspects:
1.Statusandfunctionofthispassage
Thisreadingpassageisthehighlightofthisunit.ItmainlytalksaboutthebiggestearthquakewhichhitTangshanin1976.Byreadingthedescriptionoftheterribledisaster,studentscanknowmoreinformationabouttheearthquakesandfeelprouderofourgreatnationandgreatpeople.sothispassageisimportantforthedevelopmentofstudents”emotion.
2.Teachinggoals:
1)Knowledgegoals
Getstudentsknowthenewwordsandexpressionsinthisperiod.
Letstudentslearnaboutthesignsbeforeanearthquake,thedamageofanearthquakeandtherescueworkaftertheearthquake.

Thestudentsareinseniorone.Theyhavegotsomeknowledgeofearthquakes,butitislimited.It’shardforthemtoexpresstheinformationinEnglish.SoIwillhelpthestudentsondifferentlevels.Especiallybecauseofthelackofvocabularysomepartsareacertaindifficultforthem.

2).SituationalapproachenablestheSstobemoreactiveandmorecreative.
3).Questionand–answermethod,tosomedegree,itcanarousestudents’interestanddeveloptheiranalysisability.
4).Discussioncanhelpdeveloptheirthinkingandmunicativeability.
5).MultimediaassistancearousestheSs’interest,curiosityanddesireforlearning.
Part4LearningMethods
Asisdescribedinmoderneducationaltheory,“theprocessofgainingknowledgeismoreimportantthanobtainingknowledgeitself”,soIwilltrytoarousetheSs’potentialsandmakethemobtainknowledgebymeansofautonomousstudyandcooperation,andatthesametimeformgoodlearningmethodstoimprovetheirreading,speaking,andwritingabilities.

Thepurposeistoenablethestudentstofindoutsomeexactinformationquickly.Andgetthemainideaofeachpartofthepassage.Accordingtothemainideaofthepassage,helptheSsknowhowthepassageisorganizedintimeorder.
II.Carefulreading
Thepurposeofthepartistogetthedetailedinformationofthepassage.Inthispart,firstwithparagraph1doindividualworktofillintheblankaboutsignsbeforeanearthquake;withparagraph2&3dosometrueorfalsequestionstoknowthedamagecausedbytheearthquake;Andwithparagraph4applyaskandanswermethodtoknowthedetailinformationabouttherescueaftertheearthquake.
Step3.Summary
RetellthestorytoconsolidatewhatSslearntabouttheTangshanearthquake.
Step4:Discussion(Groupwork)
