thebloodfallsarerichinsaltandironcontent,andwhenthiswatercomesincontactwiththeair,itturnsred-justlike

rust!Thewaterinthesefallsisoftenreferredtoas“brine“byscientistsbecauseofthehighsaltcontentinthewater.

Thisreasoningbehindtheredcolorsofthefallswasfoundbackin2003.However,theentiremysteryhadnotyet

beensolved.Howisitthen,thattheBloodFallsarenotfrozen?

ResearchersattheUniversityofColoradoandUniversityofAlaskafoundthatinsidetheglacier,therewasa

networkofchannelsandreservoirsthatmovethewateraround.Saltwaterhasalowerfreezingtemperature.In

addition,whenanysubstanceundergoesachangeinstate,itgivesoffheat.Therefore,thebrineactuallywarmitselfup
