BringinphotosfrommagazinesordrawingstoillustratetheKeyWords.Holdupthepictureforbaseballandask"Doyoulikebaseball?"Elicitanswersfromyourstudents.Havestudentsrepeatafteryou.Say“Baseball.Baseball”.FollowthisprocedurewiththerestoftheKeyWords.YoumayalsousethePictureDictionaryonpage109,Interests,toteachtheKeyWords.

Readtheheadingsintheboxesaloudorhaveastudentreadthem.Say“Let'sputtheinterestsintogroups.Isbaseballatypeofart,isitmusic,isitasport,oranothertypeofinterest?”Elicitsport.

Havestudentsgetintopairs.Say“NowwritetheKeyWordsintheboxes”.Monitorasstudentswritetheinterestsintheboxes,offeringassistanceasneeded.

WriteArt,Music,Sports,OtherInterestsontheboard.Goovertheanswers,askingindividualstudentstowriteaninterestunderthecorrectgroupandsaytheinterestaloud.Alternately,ifyouhavepicturesoftheinterests,youmayhavestudentsattachthepicturesunderthecorrectgroup,usingtackyordoublesidedtape.
