Hisfather,aclerk,wasplacedinprisonforunpaiddebts.And,beingtheoldestmaleleftathome,Dickenstookupworkatafactory.Hishorribleexperiencetherebecamethefuelforhisfuturewriting.Hisfatherwasfreedthreemonthslaterandinheritedasmallamountofmoney.Dickenswasthensenttoschool.
From1836to1837,hewroteamonthlyseriesofstories.ThusThePickwick,Papers,cameintobeing,whichbroughtfametohim.
Throughouthiscareer,Dickenscoversvarioussituationsinhisnovels.HewroteaboutthemiserablelivesofthepoorinOliverTwist,theFrenchRevolutioninTaleofTwoCities,andsocialreforminHardTimes.HealsowroteDavidCopperfield,abookthoughttobemodeledonhisownlife.
