Thewidespreaduseofcigarettesamongwomenlaggedsome25to30years

behindthatofmen.Althoughafewdatingwomenhadsmokedcigaretteseven

beforeWorldWarI,womendidnottakeupsmokinginlargenumbersuntil

the1940s.DuringWorldWarII,cigaretteswereagainsenttreetoAmerican

military.Athome,cigaretteadvertisingwastargetedatfemales,whohad

takenovertraditionalmalejobs.
