AvailabilityManagementneedstoconsiderAvailabilityfromanITServiceperspectiveandfromanITcomponentperspective.Theseareentirelydifferentaspects.Whiletheunderlyingconceptissimilar,themeasurement,focusandimpactareentirelydifferentthatfurtherimprovementstotheend-to-endservicewerealsoachievedbybusinessprocessimprovements,e.g.cashreplenishmentproceduresTheAvailabilityManagementProcessTheCostofAvailabilityKEYMESSAGE

'ImprovinglevelsofAvailabilitycanoftenbeachievedbyasmallstepChangeinthinkingratherthanalargestepchangeintechnology'.

TheCostofUnAvailabilityTheoptimumbalancetostrikebeingthecostoftheAvailabilitysolutionweighedagainstthecostsofUnAvailability.ThemonetaryimpactTangiblecostslostUserproductivitylostITstaffproductivitylostrevenueovertimepaymentswastedgoodsandmaterialimposedfinesorpenalties.IntangiblecostslossofCustomergoodwill(Customerdissatisfaction)lossofCustomerslossofbusinessopportunity(tosell,gainnewCustomersetc)damagetobusinessreputationlossofconfidenceinITServiceprovider
