thecellsbeforefreezingthem.
Usinglivingcellsfromchicken,Luyetandhisassistantsdiscoveredthattheycould
partlydrythechickencells,usingamixtureofthewhitepartofaneggandglycerin,
aclearthickliquidmadechieflyfromfatsandoils.Somesuccesswasobtained.The
chickencellsweredried,frozenforaperiodoftime,andthencarefullyunfrozen.
Almostallthecellsrecoveredwhentheyreachednormaltemperature.Sincethen,the
coolingofwholeanimalstoatemperatureverymuchbelowfreezingpointforlater
unfreezinghasbecomemoreofapossibility,andtheglycerinmethodwouldprobablybe
usedtoaccomplishthis.Whenthiscanbedonecompletelyandsuccessfully,sciencewill
havemovedmuchclosertoitsaimoffreezingandstoringincurablepatientsuntilthe
