developmentgoingthroughtheirhabitat.Theirtotalpopulationisunknown,

butitcouldbeanywherebetween124,000and413,000.

Giraffes

TheInternationalUnionfortheConservationofNaturerecentlyput

giraffesatavulnerable(脆弱的)status,theleveljustbeforeendangered.

Thegiraffepopulationhasdeclined40percentinthelast30years,primarily

duetolossofhabitatandillegalhunting.Somegiraffesarekilledjustfortheir

tails,whichareconsideredstatussymbolsinAfrica.

ThemainthreattoAsianelephants,oneofthemostintelligentanimals,

istheirshrinkinghabitat.Asthehumanpopulationgrows,peopleinvadetheir

landtobuildroadsandrailwaytracks.ElephantsinMyanmarareatan

especiallyhighriskforbeingcapturedandtradedorusedillegallyinthe

fromeachparent,itsfurwillbeacreamywhitecolor.Thereareabout1,200

bearswhocarrythegeneforwhitefur,butonlyabout200whiteKermode
