andbeautifullytold,intheregularflowofit.Butyou

can'tavoidthebiographyaltogether.Ithoughtyou

Thegeneralbrilliantqualityofthebookmakesme

ashamedtomakeeventhesecriticisms.Theamount

ofmeaningyougetintoasentence,thedimensions

andintensityoftheimpressionyoumakea

paragraphcarry,aremostextraordinary.Itseems,

inreading,amuchshorterbookthanitis,butit

carriesthemindthroughaseriesofexperiencesthat

onewouldthinkwouldrequireabookofthreetimes
