replacesormodifiesrequirementsasrelevant.Thisisbecauseproduct-specifictopicsnot

IEC62040utilizesIEC62477-1:2012asareferencedocumentandreferences,adds,

referencedocument.

IEC62477-1:2012relatestoproductsthatincludepowerelectronicconverters,witharatedsystemvoltagenotexceeding1000VACor1500VDC.Itspecifiesrequirementstoreducerisksoffire,electricshock,thermal,energyandmechanicalhazards,exceptfunctionalsafetyasdefinedinIEC61508(allparts).TheobjectivesofthisdocumentaretoestablishacommonterminologyandbasisforthesafetyrequirementsofproductsthatcontainpowerelectronicconvertersacrossseveralIECtechnicalcommittees.

IEC62477-1:2012wasdevelopedwiththeintention:

ThispartofIEC62040appliestomovable,stationary,fixedorbuilt-inUPSforuseinlow-voltagedistributionsystemsandthatareintendedtobeinstalledinanareaaccessiblebyanordinarypersonorinarestrictedaccessareaasapplicable,thatdeliverfixedfrequencyACoutputvoltagewithportvoltagesnotexceeding1000VACor1500VDCandthatincludeanenergystoragedevice.ItappliestopluggableandtopermanentlyconnectedUPS,whetherconsistingofasystemofinterconnectedunitsorofindependentunits,subjecttoinstalling,operatingandmaintainingtheUPSinthemannerprescribedbythemanufacturer.

NOTE1TypicalUPSconfigurations,includingvoltageand/orfrequencyconvertersandothertopologies,are

describediniEC62040-3,thetestandperformanceproductstandardforUPS.

NOTE2UPSgenerallyconnecttotheirenergystoragedevicethroughaDClink.Achemicalbatteryisusedthroughoutthestandardasanexampleofanenergystoragedevice.Alternativedevicesexist,andassuch,where"battery"appearsinthetextofthisdocument,thisistobeunderstoodas"energystoragedevice".
