INTRODUCTION

Scope

Thisstandardestablishesprogramrequirementsfortheevaluationofsustainablepolymericmaterialsforuseinelectricalequipment.Thetestprogramisintendedtoensureacceptablematerialperformancewithrespecttoflammability,electrical,mechanical,andotherrelatedsafetyproperties.

ThisStandardwillcovertherequirementsforusingMechanicallyRecycledPlasticinvariousproportionswiththevirginmaterial.

ABATCH–Quantityormaterialregardedasasingleunitandhavingauniquereference.

MECHANICALLYRECYCLEDPLASTICBASECOLOR–Thecolorofthemechanicallyrecycledresinarisingfrompigmentsanddyesthatareintheasreceivedresinandpriortoanyfurtheradditionofpigmentsordyes.Forexample,thebasecolorofamechanicallyrecycledplasticsresincanbegrayorblackwiththeactualcolordependingonthedistributionofpigmentsanddyesgiventhemultipleplasticsbeingrecycledintherecycledplasticsstream.

MECHANICALLYRECYCLEDPLASTICS–Thoseplasticscomposedofpost-consumermaterialorpost-industrialmaterialonly,orboth,thatmayormaynothavebeensubjectedtoadditionalprocessingstepsofthetypesusedtomakeproductssuchasmechanicallyrecycled-regrind,orreprocessedplastic.

POLYMERICMATERIAL–Acompoundformedbychemicalreactionthatresultsinlargemoleculeswhosemolecularweightisamultipleofthatoftheoriginalsubstance(monomer).Includesthermoplastic,thermoset,andelastomericmaterials.

4.4APOSTCONSUMERRECYCLE(PCR)MATERIAL–Materialgeneratedbyhouseholdsorbycommercial,industrialandinstitutionalfacilitiesintheirroleasend-usersoftheproductwhichcannolongerbeusedforitsintendedpurpose.Thisincludesreturnsofmaterialfromthedistributionchain.

4.4BPOSTINDUSTRIALRECYCLE(PIR)MATERIAL–Materialdivertedfromthewastestreamduringamanufacturingprocess.ExcludedfromthisdefinitionofPIRMaterialisthereutilizationofmaterialssuchasrework,regrindorscrapgeneratedinaprocessandcapableofbeingreclaimedwithinthesameprocessthatgeneratedit.

4.4CPRODUCTIONBATCH–Aquantityorconsignmentofrecycledplasticmaterial,producedatonetime,consistingofincomingrecycledstream(recoveredmaterial)fromasinglebatchormultiplebatches,optionallycombinedwithvirginresinand/orotheradditives.

DRECOVEREDMATERIALBATCH–Aspecificquantityorconsignmentofrecoveredmaterialthatisexpectedtobehomogeneouswithinspecifiedlimitsandhasauniquereferencenumber,usedasamaterialinput,inlieuofthevirginmaterial,forarecyclingormanufacturingprocess.
