CourseDescription

ThisisagraduatelevelcoursethatteachesfundamentalprinciplesandtheoreticalbackgroundsunderlyingCAD/CAMsystems.Itcoversabroadrangeoftopicsincluding:thecurrentdevelopment,applicationsandfuturetrendsinCAD/CAM,mathematicsbehindfree-formcurves/surfaces,reverseengineering,parametricfeature-basedmodeling,directmodeling,3Dprinting,basicprinciplesofintegrationofCAD/CAM,basicprinciplesofCIMSandFMS.Meanwhileguidingstudents,especiallyinternationalstudentstomakegooduseofparametricfeature-basedsoftwarewidelyusedinindustrytoexpressdesignideas,developtheircomprehensiveabilitytosolvecomplexengineeringproblems.

LearningOutcome

Attheendofthiscoursestudentsshouldbeableto:

haveabigpictureaboutCAD/CAMtechnology;knowthecurrentdevelopmentandfuturetrendsinCAD/CAM.

organizeanddiscussacademicissuesinCAD/CAMaccuratelyandprofessionally.

graspmathematicsbehindfree-formcurves/surfacessothatstudentscouldbeabletocreate3Dmodelsofcurves/surfacesmathematicallyonthecomputer.

understandthebasicprinciples,methodsandapplicationsofcurrentadvancedCAD/CAMtechnology,includingreverseengineering,parametricfeature-basedmodeling,directmodeling,3Dprintingetc.

understandtheprinciplesofintegrationofCAD/CAM,thebasicprinciplesofCIMSandFMS.

makeagooduseofparametricfeature-basedsoftwarewidelyusedinindustrytoexpressdesignideas,andcultivatestudents’comprehensiveabilitytosolvecomplexengineeringproblems.

ByreceivingathoroughfundamentaltheoreticaltrainingandmasteringCAD/CAMsoftware,studentswillbewellequippedandmoreconfidenttosolvedifficultproblemsindesignandmanufacturing.
