platformstoinvestigatethepotentialrisksassociatedwithphotoeditingonsocialmedia.Participantscompletedan

onlinesurveythatincludedquestionsabouttheirsocialmediause,photoeditingbehavior,self-perceptionasan

object,comparisonsofphysicalappearance,self-esteem(自尊),andotherrelevantfactors.

Tomeasurephotoeditingbehavior,participantsreportedhowoftentheyeditedtheirselfiesbeforeposting

themonsocialmedia.Toassessself-perceptionasanobjectandcomparisonsofphysicalappearance,participants

answeredquestionsabouthowmuchtheymonitoredtheirbodiesandcomparedthemselvestoothers*looks.Finally,

participants9self-esteemwasmeasuredusingaquestionnairethatevaluatedtheiroverallsenseofself-worth.

Thedatashowedthathigherlevelsofphotoeditingwereassociatedwithincreasedself-perceptionasanobject

andmorecomparisonsofphysicalappearanceamongyoungadults.Thesefactors,inturn,wererelatedtolower

self-esteem.

Theresearcherssuggestedthatphotoeditingbehaviormaycontributetofeelingsofself-perceptionasan

objectandbasingone'sworthonappearance,especiallyamongvulnerablegroupsliketeenagers.Theyemphasized

theneedforfurtherresearchtoexploretheimpactofphotoeditingonmentalhealthoutcomesandunderstandwhy

peopleengageinthisbehavior.

Althoughthestudyhadsomelimitations,asacknowledgedbyOzimekandhiscolleagueshighlightedthe
