情态动词

情态动词主要在英语中表示一种情绪,不能像实义动词(have,take等)一样直接做句子谓语,必须和

动词原形构成句子的谓语结构,可直接提前到句子前引导一般疑问句。

一、情态动词的基本用法

①常见的情态动词有:can(coidd),may(might),mustfshall(should)fwill(would)fdare(dared),need等,

另外,介avefo、hadbetter也当作情态动词使用。情态动词后面必须加动词的原形。

②表示体力、脑力方面的能力或客观的可能性。口语中,在询问或说明一件事可不可以做时,常用

%。〃”代替“〃叼”。情态动词“ca〃”的过去式是%。〃以“,否定式是“cannot”通常缩写成“can't",“could”

的否定式是“coRd〃。尸,通常缩写成“co”/,加忆如:做〃,即y。”?(要帮忙吗?、lHesw加.(他会游泳)/

③may表示允许、请求或可能性,用加”提问时,肯定回答一般用Certainly或Yes,you/“ay;否定回答一

④must表示“必须”、“一定”的意思。表示“必须”时否定形式是mustn't:表示“一定”时,否定形

haveto的疑问形式是:助动词+...+儿fo,否定形式是:助动词+〃oj+Aave勿或者用needn't.^-.Doyouhave

⑥$和〃在问句中,可表示征求对■方意见,与第一人称连用;在陈述句的第二、三人称的主语后或表示“命

bringhisownbook卜,次必须带自己的书来)

⑦should可表示"劝告"、"建议"、"惊奇”等意思。Weshouldspeaktooldpeople

貌地对老人讲话)

⑧will表示“意愿"、"决心"等意思,一般与笫二人称连用。如:Willyoupleaseclosethedoorforme?(]^

你替我把门关上好吗?)/1willteachyoua/esso〃.(我要教训你一顿)

©would表示过去的“意愿”、“决心”等。HewouldsitnearthefireeverytimehereturnedAo〃?e.(每次他

回到家中总要坐在火炉边)

woWd也可以表示现在的情况,表达说话人向对•方提出的要求,语气比“而〃”婉转、客气。在日常会话中,

“我想要…”通常用"Iwouldliketo"或“Ishoidd(I'd)liketo”来表示。如:Wouldyouliketohavearestat

the,〃。,〃6,"?(你现在想要休息一下吗?)

would还可以表示过去经常发牛.的事情。如:Everyyearparentswouldtelltheirchildrenabouttheboywho

⑩〃eed表示“需要”,用于疑问句或否定句作实义动词时,在肯定、否定、疑问句中都可以用。

如:Heneed,1"doitinsucha/〃“力乂他不需要如此匆忙地做这件事)/Heneedssome成业(他需要一些帮助)/

Hedoesn7needtobringhisfootballsocks那么他就无须带上足球袜了)

(IDdare是“敢”的意思,用法几乎与“need”完全相同,即在疑问句和否定句中,可以作情态动词,后面用

不带Io'、的动词不定式。在肯定句中和实义动词,,样,后面的动词不定式要带“f。"。HowdareyousayIam

二、其他情态动词的用法

I.should表示“应该”,否定为shouldn't,无时态变化。

Oughtto属于半情态动词,也表示“应该”。

Weoughttofinishtheworktoday.

2.would表“将来,宁愿“,可作为will的过去式,构成过去将来时态,常用于宾语从句中。

Iwouldstudyhard.

Sheaskedmewhere1wouldgotomorrow.

3.Hadbetter表示”3为半情态动词,无时态变化,后接动词原形。(重点考点)

Wehadbetternotarguewithourparents.

虚拟语气

虚拟语气表示说话人的主观愿望、猜疑、建议或与事实不符的假设等,而不表示客观存在的事实。虚

拟语气是由句中的谓语动词的特殊形式表现出来的。

一、虚拟语气谓语动词的八种表现形式

1.用在虚拟条件句中

虚拟条件句及其主句的谓语形式可归纳如下:

从句谓语主句谓语

与现在事实相反were,didwould(should,could,might)+v

与将来事实相反shoulddo,

would(should,could,might)+v

(可能性极小)were+to+v

would(should,could,might)+havedone

与过去事实相反haddone

注:如果条件从句中包含有were,had,should或could,有时可把if省略掉,但这时要把were,had,should或

could放在主语前面(这种结构在匚语中较少使用)。

2.用在含蓄条件句中

句了中,假设的情况不用条件从句表示出来,而是用一个介词短语来表示,句了•的谓语形式也可遵循上表

的规则。

这种用法也常见于or,orelse,otherwise和but后面的分句中。

3.用在错综时间条件句中

有时候,条件从句表示的动作和主句表示的动作发生的时间并无一致,这时,谓语动词的形式要根据表示

的时间来调整,这种句子可称作错综时间条件句。例如:
