Writesomeschoolsubjectwordsontheblackboard,suchas“history”,“maths”,“music”.Askseveralstudentstoreadthesewordsaloudonebyone.Aftereachstudentreads,therestoftheclassandtheteacherjointlyjudgewhetherthepronunciationiscorrect.Iftherearepronunciationerrors,correctthemimmediatelyandexplainthecorrectpronunciationmethod.Forexample,fortheword“history”,emphasizethatthestressisonthefirstsyllable/ˈhɪstri/.

Distributeahandoutwithalistofwordscontainingdifferentdiphthongstoeachstudent.Thewordscaninclude“cake”(/eɪ/),“kite”(/aɪ/),“coin”(/ɔɪ/),“goat”(/əʊ/),“out”(/aʊ/),“fear”(/ɪə/),“bear”(/eə/),“pure”(/ʊə/).Askstudentstoreadthesewordsaloudonebyonebythemselves,payingattentiontothecorrectpronunciationofdiphthongs.Walkaroundtheclassroom,listentostudents'pronunciation,andcorrecterrorsintime.

GroupPronunciationCompetition

Dividetheclassintoseveralgroups,with4-5studentsineachgroup.Eachgrouptakesturnstosendarepresentativetothefrontoftheclass.Theteacherrandomlypointstoawordontheblackboardorinthehandout.Therepresentativeofthegroupneedstopronouncethewordcorrectly.Ifthepronunciationiscorrect,thegroupgetsonepoint;ifitiswrong,nopointsareawarded.Afterallgroupshavesentrepresentativesforoneround,startthenextround.Thisactivitycannotonlystrengthenstudents'pronunciationpracticebutalsocultivatetheirsenseofcompetitionandteamwork.

Presentsometongue-twistersrelatedtodiphthongpronunciationonthemultimedia,suchas:

First,playtheaudioofthetongue-twister,letstudentslistencarefully,andthenimitatesentencebysentence.Afterstudentsarefamiliarwiththecontent,askthemtoreadthetongue-twistersasfastaspossibleingroups.Selectseveralgroupstoperforminfrontoftheclass,andtherestoftheclasscanevaluatetheirpronunciationspeedandaccuracy.
