Thesespacevehicles(SVs)sendradiosignalsfromspace.TheGPSOperational
Constellationconsistsof24satellitesthatorbit(heearthin12hours.Thereareoften
morethan24operationalsatellitesasnewonesarelaunchedtoreplaceoldersatellites.
Thesatelliteorbitsrepeatalmost(hesamegroundtrack(astheearthturnsbeneaththem)
