Thestudyrevealedsignificantgeneticdifferencesbetweenthenorthernandsouthermsnails.A
largenumberofgenes(2,770)wereworkingdifferentlyinthenorthernsnails,with64%ofthese
genesbeingmoreactive.Thesedistinctgenepatternsallowedresearcherstoaccuratelytellifababy
snail'sparentswerefromthenorthorsouthjustbylookingatitsDNA.Theseresultsstrongly
suggestthatthenorthermsnailshaveadaptedtotheirnew,colderhabitat.Thisadaptationinvolved
